11k+ posts user who doesn't detect sarcasm doesn't detect sarcasm :whiste:

You might have been sarcastic, but there are people out there who are expecting Facebook to fail any day now. Most of them work for Facebook's competition, though, and the rest are young hipsters who think that Facebook became instantly uncool when their parents started joining.

Those people are going to need to be very patient...

Am I the only one who's not wearing a tinfoil hat?

What if FB has access to the crap I spew on facebook? What are they gonna do with it even if they have my gmail password?

They are a company. Their interest is to make money. What are they gonna do- collect my surfing behavior, data mine it, and sell it to their advertisers? Oh no! I'm sure FB is real interested in the emails I had between my friends and family.

They're not gonna steal my identity.
They're not gonna send me a virus.

IF they are foolish to do so, it'll catch on by the internet nerds and they'll sink HARD.

Anyone else with me?

Facebook could die in a heartbeat. The internet is fickle.

Then again, AOL is still around and geocities lingered 15 years after everyone thought it was already dead.

I have never had FB or myspace. What's the point of social networks anyways?

They do have my address and the city I'm in but that's it. I have my age in there as 110 years old and don't have lists of my employer and all that.

It really bothers me that these social networking sites always ask for my personal email account passwords in order to find my friends who may also be on that same site.

Like hell I'm going to trust you with my passwords.

Wait....Facebook asks for your e-mail password??!?! F that noise!

I'm not in the business of guessing what companies can possibly do with my data now or in the future.

Therefore the less I can allow them to do with it, the better.

only if you want them to search your contacts for other users already on facebook

you don't HAVE to do this

the only thing that's stopping me from deleting my fb account is the fact that there's sometimes promotions offered, such as free starcraft 2 beta keys (that's how i got mine).

It sucks because it's gotten to the point where social networking sites are becoming part of our society. Whether it's a gaming characteristic, keeping in touch with long distance family members (my situation), or just sharing links and interesting tidbits, it's more and more becoming commonplace to ignore security for convenience.

Agreed.
Company A: "Hmmmm, we have these 7 candidates for that 6-figure job. <click click click> Hmmm, for $25 per candidate, I can see everything they've ever posted on facebook, every picture, every message. Definitely worth it considering the size of our investment."

Facebook is too big a powerhouse for anything to harm it now. Everyone has it.

Aren't companies already "friending" people to get that "$25 per candidate" info for the $20/$30 per hour they already pay the HR person?

I just started an FB 2 months back, barely use it, and have no pictures of me on there. Best you get is one of my backside, and another with the faces "smileyed". No beliefs, affiliations or 'what I do for fun".

yea back in the day when facebook was Harvard only, and it was a tiny idea. any college kid would think the same as him because he didn't expect it to get so big. that was a long time ago, and it doesn't matter anymore now that facebook isn't controlled by 1 man.
