Everyone has a right to boo. As pointless and as childish as the hate might be, from both sides of the fence, they do have that right.

As far as Facebook goes...meh. I find it no big deal since I don't use it. I really am not into the whole social networking thing. It has its place. It's a good way to keep connected. Recently found an old schoolmate and hit up her Facebook page just to stay in touch. I just think that it's overrated and overused when everyone has to make an update about what time they went to the restroom and other pieces of their lives I have less than zero interest in.

This thread makes me lol. Why do we care? Let's just use our devices and move on.

Why do you feel sorry for people that don't have their ios device jailbroken?

I am also curious, I think I have seen you mention this general opinion maybe 3-4 times, and I don't recall ever seeing you explain it.

I shouldn't really have to, just google it if you don't know what its for and everything it allows you to do. This article in particular has a lot of good info although its way outdated because its in context to iOS 3.0 or older. However I guess I'll bite and jump into salesman mode.

You go from being tied down by Apple to having all the freedom of android and more. But besides the philosophical reasons like "freedon" and all that - the reasons why someone would want it abound, and differ depending on what you might need it for. For me, iTunes is bar none, the worst piece of commercial software available on a PC. That alone is reason enough if you ask me. What about loading information from more then one machine? Why should I be "sync'd" to one machine and not have the option to install stuff from other machines? I'm not talking about pirating, just simple every day things like installing stuff that is on my work laptop versus my home computer.

Why should you pay AT&T $20 more a month to tether? Don't, there's an app for that its just not in the app store. You've all heard it before, your friend brags that he can do this, that or the other with his android. There is very little if anything your friend can do on his android you can't do on your iPhone if you jailbreak. Flash. Turn your iPhone into a Wi-Fi hotspot. File sharing via bluetooth. Cydia has you covered.

Do you travel the world? How about download ultrasn0w and unlock your phone in 2 seconds, then buy a prepaid SIM from whatever carrier presides in whatever country you're visiting and get much much better rates if you need to keep in contact with home.

Want true multitasking? THere are numerous apps, backgrounder is a favorite, that will allow for true multitasking on the iPhone. Personally I think what APple has done is perfect and I don't touch this. There is a reason they do what they do and it makes the battery life superior.

I could go on, and on, and on. How about you guys just think of something you would like for your iPhone to do - then google it. Chances are the iPhone will do it if you jailbreak or will do it sometime in the future. The rate at which new, and very useful, apps fall into Cydia these last few weeks is amazing.

YourTube 2 - download youtube movies
MultiMusicInfo - why the iPod app didn't already have this is beyond me
Gridlock - must have if you ask me

Those are all great apps and those are 3 that just came out in the last couple of days.

Yea I don't know why he always says that. That's like saying he feels sorry for people who don't root their Android device.

Its not even close to the same thing. Android is a lot more open by default then the iPhone. You know that, as you and every other android user make it a point to bring it up every chance you get.

I feel sorry for anyone that doesn't root their Android device or JB/unlock their iDevice.

I tried JBing once, wasn't that crazy about it, so I restored back to normal. Now that I am using my iPhone as my everyday device, maybe I will try it again. I have a first gen iPhone, so i don't really think I want to try multi-tasking (except perhaps to allow Pandora to be backgrounded, or to force music to keep playing in some games), but I wouldn't mind having more stuff on my lock screen.

Past that though, i don't need/want to tether, I don't travel internationally, I have no need to sync with more than one system, I am on OS X so iTunes is actually good, and I have used it for the past 6 years or so, and am used to it and like it.

My next question is, I remember from the last time I tried, I had to use a specific version of iTunes, is that still the case?

IIRC iTunes is relatively independent of jailbreaking.

I'm just a script kiddie when it comes to JB'ing though, many others are much more knowledgeable...

Yea, I meant to multi-quote you and AMDZen. My bad. The last bits were directed at him.

I think most stay at home, I have one in the bedroom (LOL, I fall asleep with a streamed NetFlix movie every night) and carry the 3G iPad with me to work, so it has a permanent place in my bag.

Why do you have two iPads?

You don't have to use iTunes at all. www.jailbreakme.com strait from the device, recommend you be on a wi-fi network to speed up the process. 5 minutes later you're done.

I know that I don't need to use iTunes to JB it, but last time I JBed my iPhone I recall reading that the version of iTunes that was out at the time would mess up the JB unless you used a modified firmware.

I ended up using Spirit to Jailbreak, that site wasn't loading for me. Seems to be fine.

If I wanted more information on my lock screen (like the weather, or latest emails) what would I need? I have EDGE and am at work, so going through everything could take a while.

Wow dude, you really are an apple user aren't you ;)

Its not connected to a computer when you install the jailbreak. You do it from Safari, the browser on the phone. It doesn't matter what version of iTunes you are running on your computer. Any version of 9 or 10 would be fine. Nothing changes because you are jailbroken. Not sure what past experience you are talking about but it isn't relevant now.

The app I would recommend is intelliscreen.

When you jailbreak, go to Cydia and click the "make my life easier" which will backup your SHSH blobs to Cydia. After that, just don't update your firmware to 4.1 until the devteam says so and you won't have any problems.

What makes you say that?

I have a first gen iPhone, I won't be upgrading to 4.x until I get an iPhone 4 (or 5 if my car continues to be troublesome :)) I last tried jailbreaking shortly after the first of the one click breakers came out, but those still required you to be tethered and you needed a modified firmware and an older version of iTunes to make sure that it wouldn't either mess up your phone or cause iTunes to immediately restore it back to normal. I also recall something involving recovery mode.

I will download IntelliScreen and check it out, thanks for the pointer.
