Start your own social platform but no one is entitled to free speech in someone's business. You may not like FB's decision but it is their right.

Correct it is. What would your opinion if Facebook decided to ban gays and any sort of homosexual groups/pages etc? It’s their platform to do what they please, using editorial discretion to ban groups of people. I get that there’s a gulf of difference between Alex Jones and gay pride but it raises the question about these platforms and trying to ban people and ideas. Gays can start their own Facebook am I right..

Huh? wtf would that have anything to do with any democratic candidates? This makes no sense.

It presupposes an unfounded assumption that "Twitter and the Interent = duh libruls, therefore libruls banned me!"

This is something that idiots argue.

Yeah, I'm sure those blacks that you are arguing can't think for themselves, are going to blame Joe Biden or Liz Warden for Farrakhan being banned by Facebook.

wtf, man?

and lol @ rasmussen (naturally) and "final call" ....whatever dystopian fascist nonsense it is that you are reading....

He's disappearing down the rabbit hole. It's rather sad to watch.

I thought righties like you love the free market. How many people will boycott Facebook over banning extremist people/groups because they violated the ToS vs. how many people would boycott Facebook over banning gay people?

Already Mr “concerned” tell me your point? Leftists wouldn't like facebook banning people who are gay so somehow we’re hypocrites that are okay with banning extremists? If thats where you want to go let me know because there are multiple ways I can respond to that, but the facts are facebook wont do that because they would lose users, frequency of visits and lose revenue. I am more likely to visit facebook now that I don't have to worry about my mentally ill 3rd cousin reposting Alex Jones videos as I would guess most reasonable people are.

He should probably indicate how the groups violated the ToS as well, since that's what the topic really is. When conservatives start up their own social media, they should just put it in their ToS. Enjoy their usual safe space.

I imagine they already have, no evidence however I am sure there has been an account that was perpetually posting gay open butt porn that has been banned.
Facebook hasn’t banned all gays it’s just the gays who continually violate the tos, the righties that we’re banned are equal to gay gaping ass porn posters.

Uglygoatboy will be back to spread the FUD, burn it down, and proffer some sort of "what if" logical fallacy anytime now.

Look at you with your straw man again! Are you just incapable of arguing on the merits or do you think you are fooling people with your routine?
Do you even know what you are knee jerking to anymore? Facebook banned known peddlers of hate speech. I support their decision.

I disagree with starbuck1975 on many things but he is being pretty clear here and it is a rational position.

Which had nothing to do with my original comment. My point was that to mr both sides here, everyone looks like the equal and opposite of the extreme. It had nothing to do with whether or not the bans were justified.

Farrakhan was banned because he is no better than the alt-right.
He was banned as an acceptable token sacrifice for Facebook to appear kinda of unbiased.

As for those somehow equating Facebook's actions as some sort of freedom of speech issue, just have them declared a public utility like the telephone, television, radio industry and bring back the Fairness Doctrine, problem solved.

The demise of this FCC rule has been considered by some to be a contributing factor for the rising level of party polarization in the United States.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FCC_fairness_doctrine

The fairness doctrine of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, was a policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was—in the FCC's view—honest, equitable, and balanced. The FCC eliminated the policy in 1987 and removed the rule that implemented the policy from the Federal Register in August 2011.[1]

The fairness doctrine had two basic elements: It required broadcasters to devote some of their airtime to discussing controversial matters of public interest, and to air contrasting views regarding those matters. Stations were given wide latitude as to how to provide contrasting views: It could be done through news segments, public affairs shows, or editorials. The doctrine did not require equal time for opposing views but required that contrasting viewpoints be presented. The demise of this FCC rule has been considered by some to be a contributing factor for the rising level of party polarization in the United States.[2][3]

But your response had nothing to do with my original post. You are complaining about a strawman argument I never made. You do it often.

The irony is that conservatives will never get this public utility requirement so long as they keep voting Republican, since Republican FCC commissioners are all about privatization, deregulation and taking bribes from telecoms. They'd have to vote Democrat to even come close.

That's ridiculous. The fairness doctrine applied to different voices vying for limited air time. That doesn't apply to Facebook at all.

If those "gays" were violating FB's ToS, then yes, they should be banned.
The problem with your 'logic' is that you presuppose that these 'right' and 'left' sides are actually real (aka bothsiderism), and then demand some kind of 'fairness' of treatment that is really just an excuse for you to act badly. You're basically like a child crying to your parents that it's only fair that your sibling should be punished every time you get punished.
The actual reality is that, if you want to use FB or anything privately-owned social media platform, then you have to follow the ToS, regardless of your political views.

Yes, Facebook is free to alter their terms of service to ban gay people from their platform if they so choose. They will also then suffer the consequences of doing that probably in terms of massive losses in users and corresponding ad revenue. Freedom and consequences, just as it should be. When will you guys get it through your heads that they aren't being kicked off Facebook on for being conservatives, they are being kicked off Facebook for being assholes? It's a simple business decision - toxic assholes big bad press and unhappy users. Therefore, kick off the toxic assholes.

What you guys should really be asking yourselves is why toxic assholes feel so at home in modern American conservatism. Why Nazis feel at home in modern American conservatism. Things like that. There's a deep sickness that you guys have to address.

You can ban behavior but if you operate a public service you cannot ban based on who people are.

I agree with this, except that they weren't banned for being assholes, but for being libelous, defamatory, and for inciting violence.
But for sure they were NOT banned for being conservatives or for spreading ideas.

As far as im concerned FB can ban whoever they want for any reason. It's a private company. Dont like it, move onto a move accepting platform or create your own. Pull yourself up by your god damn boot straps people.

Its time for the propaganda machine to start spreading FUD in the run up to the next election. Underroos is probably a straight up Russian troll.

I figure he's like a circuit court judge from 150 years ago who traveled from town to town on a schedule. He trolls from forum to forum.
