Been getting good reviews but I still dont know what type of game it is. I know its an action RPG, but is it like Oblivian or like Bioshock or like Baldurs Gate 2 or like Dungeon siege? I want to get into an RPG (last one I played was the Withcer on the PC) but I dont want an RPG that I have to continuously play until completion because I will forget where the hell I was up to if I decide to not play for a while. It happened to me with Oblivion, was up to so many quests that when I stopped playing for a few months I totally forgot WTF I was in the middle of. Any indepth details on gameplay type for this would be helpful. online searches arent giving me the feel for the game. Thanks.

Fallout 3? I know what you're talking about with putting it down and being screwed, this is a problem for large RPGs. I don't know how oblivion is but in fallout 3 at least the quest management was quite good so I presume you could come back later and figure out what is going on.

Fable 1 was very good. I normally don't play through entire games. I can count on my two hands all the games I've beat in my life. Gears of War. Final Fantasy 7. Final Fantasy 10. Fable 1. Metal Gear Solid. uhm, thats about it. Fallout 3 will probably be on that list.

Point is, the first Fable was among those few games, so I suspect Fable 2 to be a very good game as well.

I've not played Fable 2, but assuming it's like Fable 1. Fable games are 3rd person action/adventure. Not nearly as "deep" as a game like Oblivion or Fallout, you run around, do quests. It's sort of a more RPGish version of Zelda or something like that, although there are a few side quests you can do. The scale of the game isn't nearly as grand as an Oblivion or Fallout game.

The first game was fun, don't know much about the 2nd.

In Fable II there's a trail of breadcrumbs (sparkling gold line) that shows you where to go for your active quest. No need to worry about ever getting lost or not knowing what to do next.

The combat is fairly basic, but I really enjoyed it. There's melee weapons, ranged weapons, and spells. You unlock more techniques as you level up (a couple different melee attacks, free aim and zoom for ranged weapons). Melee attacks are mostly button mashing.

There are five or six (?) levels of spells, you can assign whatever spells you have available to each slot, assuming you have that spell upgraded to that level. There's no MP so you can use magic at will. But to get to subsequent levels (and deliver more powerful attacks) you need to hold down B to charge. However, your charge progression isn't interrupted even if you are attacked (unless you are killed).

Hope that makes sense.

Yeah, this is mostly an action game with basic RPG elements.
Softcore, but in the very best way.
Think of it as like junk food, nice and sweet but not super satisfying if you wanted a whole meal.

I don't get to play for long periods of time, making the breadcrumb trail awesome. I hope more games start offer a similar feature.

The combat is fun, but I wish there was more. I've only finished the hero of strength quest, so maybe it picks up later. I've only died once, and that was from an endless stream of cops (i forget what they're called) in brookridge. I got caught stealing and didn't want to pay the fine! I ended up having to pay $10k +plus community service for all the murders, lol.

This is my only real complaint about the game, I don't like how magic is used. It's too hard to change magic types while you're in combat. Normally just keep the ghosts on lvl2, and use fire or force push for lvl1.

Sweet. This is what I am looking for. Simple RPGish, don't have to think too deep hack n slash.

Thanks R Nilla. And thank you all for your input.

Worth a rental.

No replay value?

I knocked it out in under 20 hours and completed 95% of the content. There are some reoccuring quests but you can knock those out in under a minute.

Example: Kiil 3 bandits at the market.

1. fast travel to market.
2. One shot each bandit.
3. fast travel back.

I'm serious about it being under a minute for a quest.

Aside from the very end of the game, there aren't really many choices that significantly affect what you will encounter along the way. It's also pretty easy to go from being completely good to completely evil, so having that scale is almost meaningless.

I started another character to play as evil, and I find it more annoying than anything.
