The folks at Cornered Rat are all hardcore simmers. All the equipment is historically as accurate as they can make it. I remember driving in a PZIII and running into a Char B1-bis. You could litterally shoot at it in the front all day long and never damage it. You had to shoot one of it's weak points to take it out. They model the rounds, trajectory, and penetration as accurately as possible.

Funny thing is, I like project reality's gameplay, but on the flip side, it is missing the large war theater that WW2OL has.

Now, I'm not trying to suggest that Project Reality, as a mod developed outside of profit models, is as finely detailed in realism as WW2OL might, but it's close enough for comparison(IMHO). So imagine Project Reality gameplay and graphics set in WW2OL's big map system. Actually, Project Reality has HUGE maps in itself(I'm thinking of the one with the big mine in the middle with opposing airfields at the SW and NE). If you took that map, which is already probably 6-8 times bigger than the average vanilla Battlefield 2 map, and made it 1 grid square of a larger map about 20 grid squares of that size by 20(or hell even 10 by 10), despite being a fraction of WW2OL's map, it would be enough space to easily fit in 300 players. Granted, you would not want all 300 to be in the same space at once, so objectives and gameplay balance would have to be arranged to avoid that by discouraging a team from sending all it's players to the same spot.

The only thing is, once you start getting up to hundreds of players, you start needing more than one server to handle the overall game world, just like MMORPGs such as Everquest or WoW have, which very quickly forces it to be a subscription based game(just like WW2OL is) with the server professionally managed. Even if you only had 150 players, if the game is designed to last hours, you would want the server professionally managed simply because, well, we all see how often 30 minute BF2 rounds get interrupted for server restarts, don't we?

Now, I know someone always comes in and says something to the effect of, "but we don't want to play in a game where we might have to log off and not be there for the win". Well, that's fine, you don't have to, but the funny thing about the possibility that someone might say that in this thread is that WW2OL, the very game I'm basing my dream game on, proves that there ARE people who will play games like that. And besides, in this kind of game, the victory or loss is not just who wins the war, but whether or not you captured the base you were attacking within the hour you have to play - you just have to adjust your thinking a little bit. And, not only that, let's just suppose EA/Dice made BF3 into the game I'm envisioning - there is absolutely no reason they cannot have 30 minute Conquest rounds just like BF2 has in addition to the War thing I'm talking about.

Found this thread too http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr-bf2-general-discussion/42968-pr-wwii-online.html, I'm not the only one thinking this about WW2OL's War map being combined with more fun gameplay.

This is the case. (paratrooper) Rifleman and smg are Free to play.

First you get the 14 day all access free trial, then you can continue that account with free unlimited play for those 2(4) units.

The UI in the game is terrible though. Thats why most people that try it out say like: "i can't find action" Thats right, since most of the time only in 4 out of ~16 frontline towns there is a fight. But its very easy to find action if you get used to it.

1. AO/DO: Attack objective/defense objective [flashing red/green rectangle around a town name] Allows 1 side to capture the town.

2. EWS: Early warning system [ brown/orange infantry/tank icons under towns] Will show if there are a few/a lot enemy units near this town.

3. Brigade: [Shown as big flags] Spawnlists that can be moved around from town to town.

4. Missions: a mission can be made in a brigade, it has an origin and a target. It can have 1 mobile spawnpoint for infantry. It has 1 mission leader who can put waypoints. Basically it allows you to spawn in at a certain spot.

5. Spawnpoints: there are various spawnpoints you can spawn in at a specific spawnpoint by making a mission and setting an origin there.
Armybase: big spawnpoint each town has 1-4
Depot: small spawnpoint each town has 2-20
Docks/airfield: big spawnpoints for naval/air/paratrooper.
Forward base(FB): big spawnpoint between 2 towns.
Mobile spawn(MS)/FRU: spawnpoint for infantry to attack towns/FB.

To see the depots/armybases/FB's click on towns and zoom in.
So to find action take the following steps:
1. Look for the EWS, orange icons under a town name mean lots of enemy units.
2. If the town is enemy owned, aka we are attacking, look for friendly towns nearby.
3. Join 1 of the brigades in the town by rightclicking on the town on the map
4. Look for a good mission. If its a defense usually the top mission is the best one. If its an attack, only join missions with a MS. If there are no missions with a MS try to join other brigades in the towns to check.
5. Spawn in: if you are further than 1km from the town you are attacking you are at the wrong town. If you don't see any friendly tags at a defense you are at the wrong spot too. Don't waste time, go somewhere else.

If you tried the above steps and still can't find an enemy within 2 min of spawning in: ask where to spawn in on the SIDE or OPS channels. (F3/F5 by default)

Now this was the shortest way to tell a newly starting player how the spawning in system works. So you can see why so many get lost lol since this isn't told in-game properly.

Small kick if i may.

Helped 2 recruits again yesterday. When i logged off i dropped them in the middle of a big fight and they were having much fun.
At the end we were held up in a church in the middle of a town we were attacking, popping shots at anything that moved.

Kind of like that call of duty level.😛

Do you have to sign up with a trial account to continue to play for free? Or can I just use my old account without the ability to use better units?

That'd be nice if I could still use my old login to just run around a bit occasionally.

No, you have to register for the free trial then you get an email if you haven't subscribed after the 14 day period.

will the F2P account get you in their forums? Their OT forum is epicly disgustingly awesome

No, just trial accounts forums Q&A and support forums.

Its just so cool that you can have effect on the outcome of the entire campaign. I like normal shooters a lot, but theres no bigger picture. Sure getting a kill streak is much fun, but it ends there. If you get a kill streak here or do something else important you will effect the outcome of the war.

For example 2 weeks ago i drove a tank to flank an enemy attack.
Now it took me 10 minutes to drive before i saw the first action. But after that i killed a stunning 20 enemy tanks together with a friendly tank.
We basically saved the town.

If the town had fallen the frontline could have looked much differently now.
