F16 Does Noseplant at Oshkosh Air Show - My PIC

A typical, planned airshow flight maneuver (high AOA low speed pass) with an unexpected engine stall is not the same as a pilot trying to show off with an extended flare on landing.

I'm surprised he didn't punch out earlier after the right turbine went. Not enough altitude to get the nose down, much less to try to restart it.

I know some guys on another forum who work on F-16's, and they're speculating that his canopy may have been fogged so he couldn't see the end of the runway, based on some of the pics. Or maybe he was just too busy oogling all the parked planes and wasn't paying attention. :whiste:

best thing in the video is that no one goes out to see if the guy is ok.

That's actually smart. Besides the obvious risk of explosion, the F-16 has an emergency power unit that uses hydrazine for fuel and pumps out a stew of toxins for exhaust. They had no way to know if it was activated or not (it wasn't AFAIK).

after being trained long enough to save your bud and thene egress, it was a rather odd sight to me.
