F1 today......the one set of tyres rule

i searched...didnt find a topic so here goes

for those that seen the race today you will of seen what happened to kimi. after flat spotting his right front tyre (and being unable to change them because of the rule regarding tyres), the subsequent vibrations casued by driving fast with what basically amounts to a wheel thats no longer circular caused his suspension to fail specatularly under braking on the final lap

ITV got a pretty cool slow mo of it, I MUST FIND IT!

he narrowly avoided wiping out takuma sato in the process too.

now, do you think it was the rules fault, or Mclaren's fault for keeping him out? the tyre can be changed if it is deemed unsafe, but he would of lost the lead for sure.

did Mclaren put winning above safety? or was it just one of those risks you must take if one wants to succeed?

personally i see it as a risk, a risk Mclaren chose to take. fair enough the tyre was in bad shape and at 160MPH i doubt kimi could even see where he was going due to the vibrations (even the onboard camera shots proved how much vibrations he was getting) but they went for broke and it never paid off. its jus one of those things that happens in racing.

this one tyre rule has definately spiced up the races. most tracks dont really allow for over taking since the risk is too high, its safer to get ahead during pit stops, but thats no fun. Monte Carlo last week was a perfect example of how the one tyre rule brings some excitement to the last 20 laps as it becomes more about driver skill

lol you won't find many F1 threads in here.

It was McLaren's call... but if I were Kimi, I wouldn't have come in even if my team wanted to. I'm sure they asked him, since he's the one who knows how the car felt. I like Kimi more than Alonso, but it was his fault for flatspotting it unfotunately. :(

thats how i see it

ive jus visited a website with people calling for Mclaren to be banned! and that the FIA are putting lives at risk

the one tyre rule is a good one it adds the needed excitement

it wasnt the FIA's fault they didnt change the tyre, under the rules i believe it could of been deemed unsafe and a change allowed, but then they would only score a 2nd place

they took the gamble to go for 1st and it backfired...simple as that

would of been abit nasty for takuma though if kimi was going a little faster takuma wouldnt know what hit him

and how many more things must i read with the sentence "tyre blew up" or "tyre exploded"?

the tire didnt explode, or blow up or come apart. the vibrations it generated by having a big flat spot simply presented too much force for the already fragile suspension to cope with. in that sense it was a driver and Mechanical failure and not a tyre failure since the tyre cant generate its own flat spot

are you taking about the forums at atlas? yeah theres a lot of idiots in there, who are VERY opinionated... but most sports fans are anyway.

i don't think it's the FIAs fault either, since the rest of the grid finished fine... plus it's the first year for these tire rules so it's a first for the drivers/teams.
