Dude...I'd just about give my left nut to have Comcrap here. Instead, we're stuck with Wave Broadband. Hands down, the worst internet/phone service we've ever had. (but when it works...it works pretty well as shown in my screen print above) We had Comcast before we moved here. We paid less money for more channels, faster internet, and better quality of service than we get from Wave. BUT, I also recognize that while Comcast is a nation-wide company, the quality if service you get often depends on your local office and workers...we were lucky in that the local Comcast folks were pretty good.

Wait. You were paying over a $100/month for 7 Mbps DSL, when you could have had Comcast? Now, you have fiber, at cable speeds.

Municipal fiber is getting pushed across Colorado in an attempt to get out from under the thumb of Comcast. The city of Longmont is building out their network right now. Cost to charter subscribers is $49.95/month for gigabit service.

I find it funny, I stopped a 135mbps download AND a 147mbps upload in order to run a test that tells me my average internet speed is 90mbps, sure it is buddy, sure it is. They need better servers, or better peering in the DC area because I get much faster download and upload connected to literally anything else, steam servers, speedtest, apple, etc.

speedtest is always the maximum speed you pay for.

your isp never throttles that.

How is this different than other speedtests?
Many speedtests run a test against measurement points located within your ISP’s network, or to a limited set of measurement points. Those tests measure the speed within your ISP, but not your performance to “the rest of the Internet.”

In effect, this test measures whether you get adequate performance to The Internet, looking at various locations as representative of The Internet. My ISP obviously doesn't throttle any of my downloads either.

If they are throttling, it doesn't effect my use scenarios.

And if I really felt like it, i'd just use my VPN to get around whatever they are throttling.

They aren't bad. They took over my AT&T U-Verse account about a year ago, and they're doing a pretty job once they got past the initial problems with the account switchover. I can get speeds comparable with the OP's post if I upgraded to their 50 Mb/sec package from the 25 Mb/sec package I have now.

Yeah, most Speedtest results are BS nowadays. Most ISP's have a local Speedtest server on their own internal network to improve their test results.

If you're going to use that tool, pick a server run by a University or private company in a nearby state. Odds are the results will be about 25% slower.

Lol, this tool doesn't even work on my VPN, it just sits there on "step 1" re-doing the download and upload test over and over and over, been sitting here for 15 minutes now and it's still just doing step one, over and over and over.

Ok, I get it now. I'd never heard of MTCO, but I see that they're a small cable TV operator that also offers internet and voice service. So, it makes sense that even though the OP has fiber coming into the home, MTCO offers typical "cable-like" speed tiers. They probably figure that it's easiest to just offer everyone the same service, regardless of the physical connection.

when you turn on your vpn your traffic isn't shaped by your isp.
