I can't take it anymore, I think I'm just going to go ahead and order the Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9. I wanted the nf4-ultra, but I have no idea when they are comming out, and the prices are way higher than stated when I first looked at them. The nf4 4x was supposed to be under a $100 and now I have to buy it for $150! My impatience iw wearing very thin

Besides that, I don't see that huge of a difference between the 4x and ultra

is there some reason for the impatience? I am also waiting for some more AMD motherboards that support PCI-e, nF4ultra would be nice but I'd also even consider the new ATI chipset. My need isn't that dire, as I'm looking to build a gaming rig, and there isn't any reason I need to be gaming ASAP so I know I can wait as I can get by with what I have now.

well the thing for me is that I have a laptop, which doesn't allow me to play any games without it being choppy as hell. And I realize now that i had forgotten about the ATI chipset, I don't even know when those are comming out.

I'm with you rymaster. I'm about ready to explode. I gotta build this thing soon. Rumors were late november for some boards, then mid dec, before christmas, early jan, mid jan, and on and on. I"ve put this thing off for months and it looks like the first horse out of the gate has problems.

spent couple more bucks and get A8N-SLI. I bought it at $186 from micer.com and got it in 3 days. What's $40 more for you, a cost of a nice dinner?

Got real old system and been waiting since SLI was first announced to update. Not waiting any longer, you have to take plunge sooner or later.

Is the chaintech any good? I hear it's like $129 or so.

Jeff

I got the ChainTech VNf4 Ultra from newegg right after X-mas, and it has been a GREAT board. It has been rock stable for me, easy to use, and so damn fast at everything. I posted some specs from my current overclock with it (using an A64 3000+ processor) here , and I have been running it for the last 4 days at 290 FPB, and it is still VERY stable. A great value at around $130.00 if you do not need SLI capability.Link To My VNF4 Overclock Thread (Fixed)

What's wrong with nForce3 Ultra? PCIe doesn't matter if you're going to be upgrading in a year or so.

LMAO

Be nice now... ATI makes very good cards, and NVidia does too. People have been caught on the wrong end of the stick with both makers (anyone remember the Gforce FX series, and its problems with pixel shader 2.0?).

I cannot vouch for thier motherboard chipsets because I have never used one, but I would never shy away from a motherboard just because the manufacturer had had limited experience in the field. I jumped onto the ChainTech VNF4 Ultra with both feet, without being able to read any reviews (I STILL cannot find any... Cmon Anandtech, review this damn board!), and I have been VERY happy with it.

If you are leery of the board, wait until it has a review or 2 before making a decision, and let the reviews guide you, NOT who makes the board or chipset.

Major your link sent me to Microsoft 🙁 Anyway I really would like to see some reviews on the chaintech I just may be going with that in the next week or 2

Chaintech has no firewire which i would like :-\

Yeah, I would LOVE for someone to review the VNF4, but as far as reviewers are concerned, it seems not to exist -- I mean cmon, I have had this board for almost a month now!!!

And it does indeed lack firewire, but this was not a big deal for me, since I have an Audigy2 card with firewire built in. Might be a deal breakers with other folks tho.

I was taking a look at the MSI nf4 Ultra board, reviews have been good and it some good features. I really want the gigabyte board but that is more expensive than the sli!

What PCIe video cards are you guys looking @?

I would be happy with the Chaintec Mobo, and probably that Gigabyte one as well, but right now I can't find any decent PCIe video cards (X800Pro, 6800GT, or better) at reasonable prices. They all seem to cost $100 more than their AGP counterparts.

I already have a 9700pro, so going to a 6600GT just isn't enough of an upgrade for me.

I'm ready to build a new computer, but I just need a good PCIe video card (and I'd like some more non-SLI mobo choices, but I'm not too worried about that right now).

I am using a Gigabyte 6600GT, and it does GREAT! I have never seen my games run so fast! I did not want to jump all the way to a 6800 GT, since if I want that level of performance, I can move to an SLI board, and get a second card.
