F@H? What's it mean when the little pie chart gets a line in it?

See the attached pic. See the line at about the seven o'clock position? What's that mean?

It certainly helps to attach the pic.

It's still there and I'm now at 92% done. 😕 I guess I'll see if it happens w/the next WU? It happened w/my first one too.

My stats ARE UPDATING, so I guess all is well?

Wow, that's weird... never seen anything like that before. I searched a few other F@H forums over Google just now and don't see any mention of it there either.

What I do know though is that p568 is a doozy of a protein to fold... it caused 5 core crashes the other day before it finally gave up and let itself be folded. I had to reboot and run at stock CPU speed (2.2 GHz) to get through it. I'm having the same problems with p569 today :frown:

Hey thanks for the info. Ironically, I did 569 last night and am working on 568 now. 😀 Maybe the lines are unique to these to proteins? Hmm. I always wind up w/the weird stuff. Girlfriends, jobs...Folding @ Home....😉

Well, this box is really solid. It's overclocked (of course!) but I know the CPU and the motherboard very well...good PS and memory too. It ain't crashing. Curious about the line though. I should pick up another WU in about 30 minutes or so. We'll see what happens.

I should add that the logfile shows nothing unusual. Just the usual "Writing/Completed" entries.

Well if you're not losing cores like me, then you're probably OK. My box is still fairly new (to me, anyway) and while everything else (SiSoft Sandra, 3DMark, games in general) shows a big boost with this overclock, these ^%$#ing Gromacs WUs are flopping all over the place. Just goes to show you that F@H is the true test of champions.

Anyway, best of luck to you, I gotta go tweak some voltages 😛

I have noticed the occasional line in my pie charts also, (key word being occasional) but didn't think enough about it to check it out. Don't know what they represent. 😀

@ MichaelD: That is odd about the lines in the pie chart.

I think the display uses OpenGL and I have heard about other people having problems with the GUI. A newer or older driver sometimes helped them. If that all it's doing wrong I don't know if I'd bother changing anything. 🙂

@ db3edk: Yup, running F@H 24/7 really tests an overclocked computer! I only OC my P4 3.0 to 3.3 and never had a problem until p261. I'm down to 3.2 and still no success. It takes two days to finish the WU, I'm going to manually back-up the work every so often by copying the entire folder, that way I won't have to start at 0. 🙂

Hooray, it's not just me!! 😀

Thanks much.

I'm currently working on p729 and I got the same line, in the same place.

PIC.

It seems to be working fine...there are no other anomalies w/this rig....I can surf, game, etc. 😕

Maybe one of you guys can "upchannel" this, so we can ALL find out WTH this is?

Thanks, Gleem.

The rig passed that test. 😕 I am still Folding away...different family of Proteins, now though.

I'm folding...*checking* p563 right now. I haven't reached the "seven o'clock mark" yet. I'll post back.

Hey, as long as my stats get updated, right?

My only guess is that it's video card driver related, as others have already said. Since it doesn't seem to be causing any ill effects, I wouldn't worry about it. But still, inquiring minds want to know... 😉
