F@H video problems

My problems with F@H never seem to end. First it was dialup with several computers linked. Went down to 1 computer and now when I view the screensaver, the cursor leaves trails and weird video blinking. I've tried reloading and loading different versions and get error messages when downloading any version other than 5.03. I've ran antivirus, adaware, spybot and have all xp updates. Again, no computer problems or program problems other than with F@H. An idea to update video driver card was made, no update available, but video card works fine on everything.

I'd recommend dumping the screen saver version and downloading the GUI or CLI versions. I wrote a setup guide here for the CLI version.

Yes to all that, and especially that the CLI and GUI (if you keep it minimized most of the time) are much quicker. :)

Progress. I got 5.02 XP "no-nonsense" version loaded and running, thanks. I tried the MDE link, but looks like you have to sign in. Any other place to look, I only plan to make very minor changes later to the prompt questions. Also F@H loaded a bunch of icons on my desktop that 5.03 didn't. Which do I use to make changes like the old "configure" for preferences for the 5MB size and stuff?

Registration is free and painless, and that forum is run by a TeAm Anandtech member (and I'm a moderator there) so don't worry about spam.

"Also F@H loaded a bunch of icons on my desktop that 5.03 didn't."

Sounds like you ran it from the desktop, which is a folder, and all the files that get created when FAH is first run are now icons on your desktop.

Move the files to their own folder and run from there.

Thanks for joining the TeAm :)

F@H needs to be run from its own folder in Program Files. The best thing to do in this situation is to delete the crap from your desktop, and then make a F@H folder in Program Files, put the client there, and run it from there.

I've got to be missing something here. After I downloaded 5.02, I found no instructions on how to use any of it, anywhere. Does this download not come with directions. I went to the TA Sentinal sit, but couldn't find the info. Who can point or link me to a basic setup and how-to for 5.02. I had to restart my computer and now have no idea how to get F@H running again. Surely F@H has included info on this version and I just missed it, right?

Read it all and can't find the console.exe file to enter stuff in the cli. So am I right that F@H has no basic install instructions for 5.02?

You have to create the folder and dowload\move the FAH502-Console.exe (r whatever it's named) file into that folder.
