F@H Top Crunchers...

As the title states, for the 30 or so constant top producers what kind of folding armadas do you run? With the advent of quad core processing and gpu folding I imagine, at least, that many of the higher crunchers these days are using a mere 1-3 rigs to generate the massive points, but it'd be interesting to see who's still running older rigs and how they compare with the Quad's performance.

Post your stuff!

ttt

I can't believe this thread got missed!:Q ,show off your fleets folks! 😀
(Though I'm sure you'd get a better response if you included all crunchers)

I'm just a little cruncher ,running it on my Radeon X1950 Pro ,IIRC I'm getting about 500-550 pts/day on average.

My fleet is all about numbers, not high power. My main rig is an A64 X2 5200+ with 4GB of RAM. It dual boots Vista Ultimate 32-bit and Vista Business 64-bit (though it operates 80% of the time in Ultimate). Kids rig is an A64 3400+ with 2GB RAM. Server is an A64 3000+ with 2GB ECC RAM. Main work rig is an A64 3000+ with 2GB. Not bad machines, but not stellar either. Fairly run of the mill in this era of dual and quad-core.

To that, I've assembeled a fleet of rather modest P4's and such at work, though I had to dis-engage my two dual-core Xeon's. Hey, at least work was fine with allowing the workstations to fold.

So for me, it's largely about quantity, which is why I think my performance is fairly steady, with very few "big days", just steady crunching.

i'm not familiar with FTW, what does that mean? And i'm getting a PS3 as soon as the 40gb version is released.

I have 4 full time folders. A PS3, 1.66ghz CoreDuo Mac Mini w/ 2 gigs of ram, P4 Northwood @ 3.0 w/2 gigs of ram, E6400@ 3ghz w/2 gigs of ram. These guys are running 24/7. I have a 2.2 ghz Santa Rosa Macbook Pro w/4 gigs or ram that folds over night. I'll have the random rig that will fold a WU or 2 but this is my fleet thats good for about 4,000 PPD. Those Q6600's are so tempting though.

I bid for a thread like this not too long ago, as it's probably well overdue. I think we ought to "expose" ourselves, since it is a bit of a "family", and come out from behind the pseudonyms. My name is Tom, I live in Southern California (don't hold it against me), hence the "behind the Orange Curtain" in my location. I'm 53 years old and teach Math and Science to 6th graders. I'm a cancer survivor, and my mother is currently battling lung cancer. Folding rings true to my heart.

I have 4 rigs at home that fold 24/7: 1) E6750, 3.1ghz, Asus P5N-e, 2gb Corsair C6400C4, Zalman CNP9500; 2) Q6600, 3.4ghz, Asus Blitz FormulaSE, 2gb Kingston HyperX DDR2800, Ultima-90 w/Rexflo 92mm; 3) (HTPC) Q6600, 2.66ghz, Asus Blitz FormulaSE, 2gb Kingston HyperX DDR2800, Zalman CNP9500; 4) E6400, 3.0ghz, Asus P5B Deluxe, Corsair C6400C4, Zalman CNP9500. The two Formula boards have HIS X1950Pro's, so they're doing GPU folding, also.

Then, over the several years I've been teaching, I cycle my old stuff from the house into the classroom. I spend an additional obscene amount of money upgrading and maintaining my "little lab", out-of-pocket and in my "spare" time. I have, in the past, nurtured partnerships with folks like Kingston, Western Digital, MSI, and AMD, that allowed me to glom a few parts, here and there, so that I now have a student-to-computer ratio of 1:1. 32 rigs, plus a class room server. About half are P4 2.8g, with about 6 running on Soyo Dragon motherboards. Theres a couple of Fry's specials: D805's, 3.2ghz, on ECS giveaways. Those kinds of deals make up most of the balance of the room. There's a few stinkers still amongst the bunch; Duron 1.6, and a few Athlon 2400 & 2500's running on the aforementioned MSI boards. I still consider them all my babies, so unabashadly include them in my "armada."

I usually do a math exercise involving data gathering and analysis, using the rigs and SuperPi. I let teams of students pick a computer, based on their results, then they use that rig to fold for the class Team. They keep track of their results over the remainder of the school year, graph it, analyze it, etc,... you know, all that school stuff. Consequently, when that happens, MadMurph's "farm" will be off, reappearing under the class name for a while. All to the cause, on several fronts.

MadMurph, I just looked it up, and you have 42 processors active !!!!! I have 6 ! No wonder you have been giving me a run for the money. My average for TEAM is only ~12000.

I have 4 C2 Quads, 3420, 3008, 2800 and 3200 are the speeds. Then I have a C2D E6400@3.2 and a X2 4400 @ 2.5, thats my 6.

BTW, I am also 53, but all the processors are in my house, used for Lan parties when my son's friends come over, and when not, they fold 24/7. I have 2 other rigs folding for bleedinegde, and 3 others that are only used for the lan parties.

My average on the other team is ~3500, it has 2 C2D's @ 3200.

Did I Come clean enough ? I already told everyone on this forum what I had before anyway.

Oh, and I passed 2,100,000 and I didn;t see the milestone, but I hit one every 8 days, so....

4.2 million total for both teams, 170th place for the world !

😎 Heh, heh! Actually, since you're looking, only 37 active -- 33 in the "farm" and 4 at home. A few of the older boards seize up over the weekends, so the number fluctuates below that frequently. Glad to see someone's giving you a run😀 No cleanliness needed, just good fun. Congrats on your numbers. Cheers & happy folding, MM

Ooh, nice to see this got bumped up. To keep it going, I've got a single mobile 2500+ crunching whenever I'm not gaming so my output is pretty small. Next summer, though, I'm planning to upgrade to a quad and sell my current setup to a friend under the condition that it remains a folding rig 🙂

Oh, and I've borged a couple of my friends computers. Shhhh.

you guys are animals. I'm still on seti, guess old habits die hard 🙂 I hijacked my mom's computer last month and fixed a buddy's kid's computer on the condition that he run DC 24/7 when kids aren't playing games 🙂

Jeez, what kinds of electric bills do you guys have I wonder. I wanted to have 5 comps folding, but after the first couple months it got to expensive.

Laptop with a Core2 T5600 running SMP client
Desktop with an Opteron 175 running SMP

That's it and I'm in the top 30.

(I'm bunker btw...had my name changed here a little while back)

I was in the top 15ish for a few months on folding. I had 2 core2 Duos folding, one at 3.2 and one stock, plus 4 Pentium-Ds, and a handful of P4s. The Core2s did most of my PPD though, the SMP client is a beast.

Then I was on DPAD for a while and now currently I'm at WCG. Although in the next week and a half they'll all be swapping over to SETI for the competition!! =)

Hey, I've got 39 active...no love here? I mean, I've already said most were modest, but imagine if those were quads? 😉 😀

Q6600 (at stock)
X2 4200+ (at stock)
A64 1800+ (@ 2.4 on stock fan)

I have about 2 other A64's, and 1 P4 with HT running at my brothers house, but for the life of me I don't recall the specs.

Every once in a while I'll fold on my 1.6ghz laptop, but my wife complains it gets too hot to be comfortable.
