Hello everyone, as some of you have noticed my fellow Poopflinger and I have some new hardware to burn-in for a while. We'll be back to using our own desktops soon, but hopefully we'll pump out some freaky numbers for the team in the meantime. Maybe Gravity will start sweating and get his firewall fixed! :)

Though 2500 WUs a day wasn't exactly the plan. We seem to have a problem with one of the machines. These are straight out of the box high end Intel servers, so no overclocking but potentially a hardware problem. We're running the command line 5.02 client with generally default settings except that we're accepting the large work units (fahcore_96).

Let us know if you have any suggestions. Also, would the errors appear on the DOS window of the server having the problem? We don't have a convenient way to view the large number of consoles so we don't want to go searching if we won't be able to see the problem.

Thanks,
Stitchface

HiYa stichface

If your servers are networked, you might try installing FAH Logstats on one of them. Then share the FAH directory on the others so FAH Logstats can monitor all of them. The one not finishing workunits is the one with the potential problem.

note: make sure you don't use the -advmethods flag because this will allow you to receive immature workunits that can fail (leading to BSOD in some cases).

The increased number of wu's started before your production increased, are you sure it isn't one of your personal rigs? Old thread (look 5 posts from the bottom)

If you are running two or more consoles per computer and are getting fahcore_96 WUs you might have a problem with one of them not doing anything for a long time (They may have fixed this problem) They give great points per day though!!

Yes the DOS window would show if it is having a problem. If it is working correctly you will see something like this: (this is with a verbosity flag, so it might show more than you see)
[04:15:18] Completed 1517 out of 2077 steps (73)
[04:15:18] Writing local files
[04:28:52] Completed 1537 out of 2077 steps (74)
[04:28:52] Writing local files
[04:43:07] Completed 1558 out of 2077 steps (75)

If it is erroring out on many WUs you will see lots of this kind of stuff:

[05:07:19] Loaded queue successfully.
[05:07:19] + Benchmarking ...
[05:07:21] - Preparing to get new work unit...
[05:07:21] + Attempting to get work packet
[05:07:21] - Connecting to assignment server
[05:07:22] - Successful: assigned to (171.64.122.113).
[05:07:22] + News From Folding@Home: Welcome to Folding@Home
[05:07:22] Loaded queue successfully.
[05:09:11] + Closed connections
[05:09:11]
[05:09:11] + Processing work unit
[05:09:11] Core required: FahCore_96.exe
[05:09:11] Core found.
[05:09:11] Working on Unit 06 [April 25 05:09:11]
[05:09:11] + Working ...
[05:09:11]
[05:09:11] *------------------------------*
[05:09:11] Folding@Home QMD Core
[05:09:12] Version 1.04 (Apr 7, 2005)
[05:09:12]
[05:09:12] Preparing to commence simulation

There will also be lines about an error.
The computer with the problem should stick out like a sore thumb :)

Those core_96 WUs should do an excellent job for burn-in.

Hope this helps you :p

Thanks for posting (stop by again) and thanks for folding. :D
