These WU, they are harder than heck to crunch. My AMD XP2200 does about 6 minutes per frame on the 400 frame packages. I read of people doing 10 to 20 WU per day and I wonder..that would be about a frame every 2 1/2 minutes or so...that's blazing!!

Thanks for stats and congrats on Milemakers!!!

F@H WUs can not be compared to SETI WUs, or even other types of F@H WUs. In general, F@H WUs take a lot more processing to complete than SETI WUs, though there are different complexities of F@H WUs. If someone is doing lots of F@H WUs, they're either running more computers, or getting smaller WUs and thus fewer score points for their WUs.

Also, the 400 frame units use the Tinker core which is slower. They usually are good for 70.9 points.

The Gromacs core is the newer core, but isn't used for all the projects yet. It is faster on machines with SSE like the P4 and AMD XP and 64 processors. The WUs usually have lower point totals, but you can fold several gromacs units for each Tinker unit.

On my 3200+, I can do a 400 frame Tinker unit in about 27 - 30 hours. Some of the smaller Gromacs units will take only 7 1/2 hours.

So 4 Gromacs units @32 points each vs 1 Tinker unit at 70.9 points in 30 hours.

With the current 4.0 core, add -forcesse -advmethods when starting f@H and you will maximize your production. Running with these arguments will test your system's stability. If you get crashes, take off the -forcesse argument which will disable SSE enhancements in AMD processors.

That is great info Hyperfocal. I was wondering why some of the data was crunched using differed formats, and you answered the question. I do remember seeing 3Dnow! being ativated/used (can't remember the exact phrase) when I set up my wife's machine and it started processing the Gromacs core.

If I'm not OC'ing and I use the -forcesse parameter, I should be OK, right?

Yeah, that's correct. It can also work when your system is overclocked; you'll only encounter stability problems if you're running beyond the limits of your processor (which can be well above what it's actually rated for - my Athlon XP 1700+ ran perfectly stable at 1.8GHz, and I'm testing it at 2GHz right now to see if it will be stable). 🙂

In my experiences, you have to type it in as -forceSSE or the flag won't work, could have been a weird quirk with my machine.

Thanks to Hyperfocal and congrats to the MMs!
I actually cracked the top 10 for the day! (#9)

The TeAm is proud of your participation no matter the production level or ranking. All of the DC TeAm's associated with Anandtech are driven by `little folks working together`, to coin a great phrase from the Crazee Smoke site. Some of these little folk produce mega pointage daily, others a few points per week. The difference doesnt matter, the whole TeAm benefits because of ALL the participants.

Thanks for the info....

What about the -forceasm flag ??? I have been using it due to some sites recommending it, but
I have no clue whatsoever if it is really usefull.

I start with these flags:
FAH4Console1_Affinity1.exe -local -advmethods -forceasm -forceSSE
