F@H Optimization Question

MDE

Lifer
Sorry if this is a repost, but I don't remember seeing this anywhere in the FAQs...

How much faster is the command line version of F@H than the GUI version? Also I found this guide at MaximumPC (Remember to fold for TeAm 198 not their sucky team 🙂) Their optimizations look good, with the exception of the team number.

Thanks Rusty, any ideas on the command line version's speed? I'll be moving to it anyways, just wondering on the speed boost.

One or two percentage points of performance could be gained moving from the GUI to the CLI. However, if you were in the habit of frequently bringing up the GUI to check on the graphics, or if you left it unminimized for an extended period of time, then you'd likely gain a good deal more performance moving to the CLI.

Didn't think it'd be too much of a boost, but it's a boost nonetheless!

I found around a 5% improvment moving to the CLI.

Also the GUI crashed twice on me and deleted all the work I had done, so I got no points for it.

I think I'm going to the CLI then. I too had the console crash on me twice.

I've never even seen GUI - CLI from the get go. Firing up the 486 with PODP83 in it today. Oh, and there's no cache on MB, so it ought to be REAL slow.

What about the v4beta client? Is it faster? Buggy?
I've not tried it, but then I don't have lots of time to babysit my clients, so I stay away from non-open-source beta software.

Oh, and the WUs have time limits, so basically anything slower than 300MHz is not going to work. I do hope you were joking about the 486. 😱

I've never had the GUI crash on me, but have noticed an improvement using the CLI. Also, if you need to see stats, use Kfold. Easy to install and lets you see real time stats on your current WU's. 🙂

Thanks for the link to Kfold... but damn that download time takes forever. Good thing it's a zip and only 1500k. :Q
