F@H: new GPU2 NV Work Unit

I just found myself crunching a P5902 Work Unit. FahMon did not know the credit so I checked.... HOLY COW... it's worth 1680 points! (3 day prefered, 4 day max deadline)

Looks like they've given us some serious work to do

well considering that would be 450min or 7-1/2 hours means you can get roughly 3.2 of them done a day or 5376ppd....better then the 511 pts...about the same as the 384 pt units...

What do you run your GTX+ at...I am trying to figuring what my 9800GT would receive....less 511pts would be nice....most could see 25-30% gains in daily output if the 511's were gone....
 
Out of 19 GPU clients, you would think that ONE of them would have this unit, but not right now at least.....
 
Despite my wrong posts to the contrary in the past about this, you CAN get many more of the 59xx WUs if you use the -advmethods flag. (still 😱 about this)

4 of 4 of my cards are currently crunching P5902 WUs

I've got my 9800GTX+ cards clocked with stock core and memory, but the shaders are set to 1944

The 8800GTS (512MB) cards are also clocked with stock core and memory, but the shaders are set to 1836) Time/frame is ~4.75 or slightly less on these cards.

Remember that the 59xx series WUs will have a varying frame time not only for differing WUs, but also within the WU itself. So PPD claims need to be qualified with that info.

Update: Apparently 5902 finally got added to the project DB. FahMon is reporting ~5,150PPD on the 9800 and ~4,500 on the 8800. (averaged guesstimate from two card each)
 
Wow these WU are.....crazy! It tkaes me around 7 min and 30 sec to complete a % on my rig in sig, yet my GPU temps are at 53C, compared to the 63C caused by the 511 point WUs.
 
It is nice that the overall temperature is so much lower. That's why I opted for the flag to get as many of them (P59xx) as possible.

I have read threads that questioned if the temperature cycling as it does (5-10C change every few seconds) is dangerous to the chips. IMO it is not a worry, but it's not out of the question. A risk we need to know we're taking. No greater than the risk to fold in the first place (only my opinion ...again)

I added that flag to the 7 clients finishing first of 19. Then shut down the client, and re-laiunched with the "-advmethods" flag. The first 3 all got 5761 units......
 
I noticed that my cards were on average 4-6c lower when I tested it on a 511 unit or a 353 unit....With single card cooling 9800gt solutions that makes a difference.
 
Wow, that is some kind of work to do. So far not one of my cards have this WU and they do have the -advmethods flag in place. Hmm, Wonder what my 260/216's will do when they come up.... Looks like Duvie has done the math, ( thanks BTW, ) :beer: and math = funny numbers 😱.
Just so you know, I do love these GTX 260's, They are a work horse and get the job done! :thumbsup:

wow, an hour later, now I have 6 of them They range from 3700 ppd (8800 GT supoerclocked) to 5100 ppd (9800 GTX+). Not much of an improvement, but my total ppd went up 2k. 7-10 hours to finish a unit.
 
I just got in and looked at my clients and it looks as though I have some of the 5902s also. I think as Sid noted, the variability of these units confuses Fahmon a little. One thread I read suggested adjusting Fahmon preferences to monitor the three frames rate for a while until more work is done and then put it back to one of the longer algorithms............... FWIW

Yes, that is a pretty good Idea. I was looking and wondering what was the most accurate. But now since these new WU's have come up, it seems that we have to watch (again) and figure out what is best.
This F@H behavior seems to be a never ending process, a process that is challenging and fun.

Mark, that is pretty funny that all of a sudden you got them....

Pokey, um...stepped it up a notch or two? 😉 I love it! This is way too cool!

You're right Drsignguy, it is way cool to see something here to provoke a little intervention, interest and never let us take it all for granted. Sometimes it is good to do the 'set it and forget it' thing, but I like it best when they don't let us discount the unknown.

And in the finest traditions of Sid and F@H...... They cooled down my video cards 2 weeks after I sawed holes in my cases......... Quick Draw McSid does it again! :roll:

PS: I keep reading that 'use all frames' gives the most accurate PPD results, but I am not convinced. I think Pokey might just have it right. 😉
 
Now I have 13 of them.....And my 260 GTX is one of them. 7 1/2 hours total. 7 hours 40 minutes for a 9800 GTX+, not worth the extra $50 for the 260....
 
I think Pokey is pretty much on the mark here as you said Sid.

So far it shows that the "use all frames" seems to be the most accurate.

And BTW, I have been seriously watching the stats and my heart has been beating faster since I have seen Pokey pull out the reinforcements.
This just rocks to see his PPD climb. Good to see our teams production climb as well.

I won?t regale you with how all this came to be other than ????.I did not get to where I wanted to be during the Dec race and just kept diddling and fixing and building?????.(and spending outrageous sums of money)

I have 18 cards now doing 5902's including a 260 GTX (my fastest card and highest ppd), and its going 5540 ppd. How do you get 8100 in the same wu ?

Second place is a superclocked 8800 GTX@740 mhz, and its at 5230 followed by a 9800 GTX+ @ 742 mhz @5183, and its mate @ 5165 ppd. I just can't see how that is real. What am I missing here ?

I too share your sickness. I am almost complete with my "switch-a-roo" processes. Got my hands on a couple more GTX 260's and wanted them in certain machines. I love it when a plan works!:thumbsup:

 
Well, I now have all my 260's with the new work unit and I have noticed a significant drop in temps. Looks like I can lower my fan speeds a notch or two.
The usual 511 point WU's, my temps were around 63-65c now, with these larger point WU's my temps are at 48-50c. PPD vary 5876 -7100. Using on all OS, driver 182.06.
