I just got back too. I was (still) trying to get Ubuntu going on my quad. No Joy :(

It's more than just the video card. I took the card from my X2 and swapped it into the quad. Still didn't work. tried the F6/delete queit splash, tried the start in safe graphics mode... it couldn't make it to the desk top no matter what I did. Then I put the same card into my htpc X2 and it worked with nothing special done. just clicked Start and in a couple minutes it was to the desktop.

The real shame of it is that I can't run Ubuntu on my main PC or the htpc because linux can't do anything except it's open office crap and let people write with python. OK, so those are good uses for a PC BUT some of us want to play... linux WON'T

anyway (all ranting aside) I now have two video cards (7950GT and 6600GT) that I have run Linux with on the A8N-E (S939/NForce4) mobos, but I couldn't run Ubuntu with either on the X38-DQ6. I guess I'll be waiting for version 8 :|

In the F6 mode try adding this to the boot command:
noapic nolapic nosplash

or

acpi=off noapic nosplash

LoL! :D
I like your set-up ... it looks like one of mine. But it runs.
What are we all doing for the fun of it --- and to do some science --- and to find friends far, far away (and close by???)
ROFL! :D

Good idea for a thread! :sun:

Folding is all the rage now - there are 15 folding thread active during the past 36 hours ... no other project has that impact on the DC-forum.
Wow this is just incredible!

I need a beer.
I'll get a beer!
See you soon!

OK, this is wierd

I tried two SMP clients on the quad and saw 16.xx minutes on one and 17.xx minutes on the other.

Then I switched over to running just one and saw 8.xx minutes on it.

After crunching a single for a while, I went ahead and started up the second so it wouldn't expire.....

now my times are 14.xx minutes on both of them (for several steps now)

I can't think of any reason for the speed up. I didn't change anything (that I know of)

I think so. But I'm still using my 350 for transfering old HI8 tapes to CD/DVD.

Nice setup you have!

It's a 46" 1080P LCD

It's not a real big room, so it's perfect for here.

It's like broadband was to surfing..... once you get used to it, nothing else will do!

(/me envies 55" of plasma heaven)

55 inch plasma + 1500 watts surround, 12 inch 3 way JBL front, Boston acoustics center, 8 inch 3 way rear and 300 watt JBL sub...When buildings blow up in Indepence days, my windows shake...

The only way to watch movies !

This made me remember something important about getting better ppd when running two!

It might be only for Linux, but I wonder if it would explain some of what you saw.

It helps quite a bit to set each core process to a CPU core.

Someone even made a simple program that checked every so often to make sure the threads are assigned to CPUs properly and set them if needed. (read about this at the old FCF)

I'm just trying to get into the plasma/LCD bandwagon but have to convince my wife. I don't think I could convince her for a 46 or even 55. A 42 inch would be great for our small living room, we are about 8 feet away from our 32" JVC(CRT) right now. We would gain 2 feet with the flat panel so we would be 10 feet away.

How far are you guy's away from your TV?
