Speaking of boink, have any of you Folders heard anything about F@H being added to the BOINC client in the future? I've heard thru reading up on the start of BOINC/SETI2/AstroPulse that there is an interest of F@H joining, amoung other projects. Any news about this? Would be nice as it would have the capability to cache workOriginally posted by: jliechty

Problem is, the FaH wu's you get sent are based on the ones you finish and turn in. DC projects like Seti aren't dependant on the previous wu, they're just crunching data so you can cache wu's for times when the server is unavailable.
That should work, but someone who has actually used F@H twice with a service install on an HT machine should really confirm or deny this.Originally posted by: Overkiller
UP ya go
[edit] Reading up on this project. When using firedaemon service install. Would u set 2 processors as CPU0 and CPU1 and then work would be delegated to a Hyperthreaded machine?

Jliechty,
I don't believe this guide is located in your first post. I believe it should be included because it has a WEALTH of information with pictures and 3 tiers of custimization (easy to advanced).
The Hyperthreading topic is there as well. here's the Link:
(of course mention that the TEAM ID needs to be Anandtech's)

Bump for me joining you guys
I won't be able to contribute a ton seeing as I only have one machine and I use it all the time. I'm going to try running it while I'm at work during the day and see how that goes. I might also install it at work and let it crunch every night (no I won't get in trouble for it).
Anyways I'm glad to be a part of Team Anandtech and look for my first WU in a few days :beer:
There is a percentage point or two of difference, but it's nothing like the difference between the SETI GUI vs. CLI.Originally posted by: BlackMountainCow
Hi!
After crunching SETi for a long time I have changed one of my machines to F@H! It's a PIII 600 only but hey, better than no machine at all
Hence I got a question: Is there any difference between the graphical and the command line client concerning performance (when the graphics are closed on the gfx client)?? I read all the above links and F@H starting and so on, but couldn't find anything about that.

just joined and wanted to bump this since I had to find it using search
After you've been here a while, you'll learn not to speak in absolutes regarding such qualifications of distributed computing projects. SETI is more interesting for you for those reasons. Folding@Home is more interesting to me because I have relatives and friends afflicted with some of the diseases and conditions which may be alleviated or at least made more bearable by the research which the F@H project is performing.Originally posted by: PorBleemo
I did F@H for a while but SETI@Home is more interesting because it has to do with space.
