Playing with max settings at 1280 X 9xx resolution, no soft shadows and no AF/AA

I mean, the game is obviously smooth when you're playing at normal intervals. But I want this system to eliminate even more glitches. Am I asking too much 'cuz I know it can sound kind of bitchy of me to be asking this sort of shi- about a single game.

Do you think that installing a raptor will be worth it? Or should I just stop complaining about this particular setup and live with it? Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, is there anyway whatsoever to turn off the annoying auto-save feature?

Try again with more lucidity this time.

Eliminate more than glitches? That system shouldn't have glitches unless you're running crappy drivers or malfunctioning RAM. What exact 'glitches' are you speaking about? Artifacting, stuttering.....?

We need to know what glitches you mean,FYI I was playing it with my lesser spec rig then yours at 1680x1050 res and it was fine in general, don't remember any crashes or weird graphical glitches.

You shouldn't be having any graphics problems with that setup and those (very low) image settings. Something isn't right in there.

<--- Played FEAR on much higher settings at 1680x1050 on a 7900GTX, friend plays it on an X1900XT at 1280x1024, again on much higher settings. No problems.

^ Really bamacre? How smoothly? What IQ settings? If it plays smooth on your system, I can't wait for my 7950GT! I have like the same computer, no lie. No news from the OP yet, I see. If he wants help he'll have to tell us.

Same card and same resolution and I have no problems either.

No AA, 4x AF. No soft shadows, no volumetric lighting. Everything else max. Never dips below 30 fps.

<-- Played FEAR on a 6800GS OCed to 515/1200 at 1280x960 MAX settings 4x AA, highest AF (8x I think it was), and FPS never dipped below 40.

... and GundamSonicZeroX, i find it really hard believe you ... FEAR?!? ... noone gets MAX everything with 40 fps ... i believe soft shadows will even slow the 8800gtx below 40 fps. :p
.... my x850xt@PE couldn't with SS 'off' ... there were always those annoying 'dips' to below-30 fps during the intense firefights ... even happens with myx1950p ... although it is much [much] more rare.

back from testing~

alright, well I tried out the demo and it is incredibly buggy - it's nearly over a year old.

the 'real game' with the latest Seirra patch, the framerates on 1280x854x32 runs like liquid water. updated system configuration settings to make things work out.

first ten minutes into the game, when my support mate knocks over some shelves that block me from entering the door immediately, I have to wait for several seconds before I run in. so that's normal with the software? it just gives me a damn head ache each time the game saves using the F5 command 'cuz the game has to pause... I'm just bein' stupid, software is software.

load times are very good on Core2 chips.

thx guyZ~

so I'm just going to leave the core2 1.86 system at stock since it wouldn't be worth the money to invest in OC'in' to get a few more frames. about the Raptor, I'll probably just hit up SATA300 with NCQ. otherwise the initial system as it is would be a waste of time trying to squeeze a couple more frames out of it, combined with 2 gigs of DDR2, the Core2 exceeds the performance of our last generation extreme edition from Intel and comes close enough to the rip off Athlon FX60 (stock).

p.s. I'm glad the ALT+F4 works, 'cuz there have been several instances in the game where I was freaked out. but I realized with the sound turned off, the game is not nearly as pulse-rattling as when your X-fi takes full heat on a crystal clear sound setups.

There was a part in the game where it dipped to the higher teens now that I think about it. I'll retest tomorrow.

EDIT: Did you look at my Resolution? It's not very high.

FEAR recommends 10x7 for *all details* with anything under a x1900xtx ;)

even my x1900p dips to mid-20 [very occasionally] at 10x7 [*everything maxed* --except SS, off] in the very heaviest of firefights
[run the built-in performance demo and remember that it is 'generous']

damn straight an x1900 will suffer in this game, but when you think about anything below that Radeon you're using, you will think twice...

Does the latest patch make the game more stressing? I ran version 1.03 when I had a 6800GS.

no. but the latest Xpack is definitely more demanding than FEAR, however.

Your 6800GS won't run *everything maxed* without dipping the FPS into the 20s in intense situations ... nevermind soft shadows. :p

I didn't notice any bugs in Fear or Fear XP. Fear XP is definitely more demanding though.

fire400 none of your hardware is overclocked?

Also I'd shut off one of the cores on your CPU and play single core and see how it plays.

Gaming with dual cores still isn't the greatest.

Ah, I see that I misunderstood you. And yes the expansion helluva lot more demanding than the regular game. It almost made my 7900GT cry with SS and Volumetric Lights. :(
