I just got fear on ebay for 10 bucks and loaded it up.

I think i played like 5 mins before i had to save and exit out lolz.

Took me like 2 mins to go through the door after hearing those noises lolllllllllllllll.

The problem could also be that i turned off all the lights and that i'm home alone. ;p

Wait, the PC version has an anytime save? The PS3 just has checkpoints which are ultra lame.

I've never played the Marine sections of AvP 1/2 because the multiplayer demo for AvP2 was freaky enough as a human. Plus, aliens/preds just plain dominate.

I've played through maybe half of FEAR and it's a pretty scary game. The ABSOLUTE WORST part was the first time I encountered the invisibles. I jumped a fuckin mile and I think I actually yelled. This is at 3am in the morning, window closed, blinds down, lights off, door closed, headphones on, volume very very loud.

That's the only way to play it ;)

Anything less and you are doing yourself a disservice. You gotta get the full experience by playing alone in the dark.

Yep, playing FEAR in the dark is a must IMO. It'll make you jump at times.

I still haven't finished the game. I can't play it for more than half an hour at a time. The invisible guys freak me out too much.

As with most Windows game, you can save anytime.
It also has very thorough checkpoints in the level, and autosaves at every new level.

The game was made by Monolith who also did No One Lives Forever (1 and 2), Alien Vs Predator (1 and 2), Tron 2.0, and I think they did Might & Magic 9 too.

Not sure about Migh & Magic but all the other games have a pretty standard menu interface, and the save systems are very similar.

Also, excellent game. Not quite as scary as AvP 2 with the lights off, but about 10 times scarier than Doom 3.

Man, you got to play as the marine.

The predator is a twist on the usual FPS, your ARE the monster as the alien, and the marine says "Oh S***, Oh S***, Oh S***, Oh S***, Oh S***, " a lot.

Nothing like walking through pitch black, your motion detector starts to blip a lot with unknown contacts that keep fading away, you drop some flares and behind you you hear the aliens screaming as they lunge at you.

I played through AvP 2 (the least scary of the 2 IMHO) for the second time years later and it still scared the crap out of me. Graphics mean nothing when you start uploading clip after clip in the dark until they are on top of you and you panic firing a grenade at the aliens who happen to be at your feet.

Yes .. but it gets *tedious* if you are doing what i am doing .. playing through both expansions in a row!

i am looking for "anytime godmode" about now
:Q

ultimately it fails :p
- it just gets l-o-n-g-e-r

~7/10 for the "series" [i ain't finished with Perseus Mandate yet] ... ~8/10 for FEAR ... the gore finally got to me ... and 'boo' no longer does anything but irritate me now. i am glad FEAR+2 Xpacks wasn't one long game like SS2.

good game, got a little boring for me, I was freaked out by that lil girl who would appear and just vanish.

a few months ago I played Condemned Criminal Origin. Having played AVP/AVP2 (neither 100% though) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Undying, F.E.A.R. and a few other of the more scary FPS's. I gotta say Condemened was maybe the most intense. Good graphics, great sound, dark atmosphere and a pretty tight story line. I hope Sega makes a PC port of the up coming sequel.

F.E.A.R. - Making of - Part 1 (part2 in related videos)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=CwBXxvI328Q

unfortunately, i cant find the developer commentary video or whatever it was called, on youtube.
The part where they all sit together in a room (after make up, lol) and go thru a few levels of fear is worth watching.

FEAR's combat was off the freaking hook!

I hope that FEAR2 is more than just a handful of new enemies and
a couple outdoors scenes mixed with more office to office combat.

All the previews look exactly like the first game.

Either way, that's why I updated my GPU in the first place and I'll
be playing with the lights out as soon as it hits the shelf. I'll be
living with my girl then so she'll have to get used to that

I love FEAR for it's ability to actually make my mouse hand sweat
when I'm really into the game.

That's saying something.

I thought the demo was amazing, but once I got the full version, it turned out to be pretty standard.

Fear has some great moments, but it gets real dull in long sections. I really liked the Weapons though, combat was very good.

Particle effects are still among the very best and Squad AI is excellent
[compared to most]

the rest is So-So ...

I really hated this game. I finished it, so I can safely say this game sucked.

How could you stand to finish a game that you *hated* ?

i never - ever - was able to do that with games i even dislike - not even caring to see the Ending in godmode - i just uninstall them tossed 'em aside in the Big Pile or gave 'em away or sell those -
i have even been known to break a disk and toss it in the trash. :p

Fear was one of the best shooters I had ever played. I liked the first expansion but the last one hasnt been played yet. I installed it and the graphics became so dated compared to the stuff I had been playing that I cant get it started. They should have released it last summer when nothing was out and before COD4 and Crysis and all the newish eye candy games. Ill say this though, playing trough fear on the hardest setting using only shottties and pistols was AWESOME!.

Maybe he did it just because people were talking about it at the time. :p I finished HL2 for the same reason even though I was bored to death by it, although the last few parts turned out to be better.
