That's probably true, but with the cinema you get a lot low budget directers trying out new ideas, and a lot of people are turning their back on hollywood - just look at all the from the east that are becoming big hits now. With computer games all you see are sequels, spinoffs and rippoffs, very little is unique - ideas such as bullet time are tired, stylised cliche crap now, and the rewind feature is fast becoming the same, but this is ok, because to the playstation generation a good game is defined by it's graphics and "style".

I've just been looking at Chronicles of Riddick: Obligatory colon based subtitle - pretentious cut. It looks alright from the reviews, looks like a cross between Metroid, Zelda and Manhunt from what I can gather from the descriptions. It could be interesting but it's not a game that I'd be buying any time soon - maybe when it's released in a compilation pack of 20 games for £15

Was the film based on a videogame? The story, dialogue and characters were so laughably bad it may as well have been :p

MadEye, I take it you don't waste your time playing any video games then? Given that creativity and insight are so obviously lost from games development.

And this goes for anything subjective, let people enjoy what they want. Trying to convince them otherwise just makes you seem like a pretentious prick with an agenda. Being anti-pop is just as tired and overdone.

As for me, FEAR is on my highly anticipated list. The stylised action and scfi elements would make for a good time, I bet.

Jeeze, you're pretty negative, aren't you. :p
Chron of Riddick is my choice fot GotY. Check out the reviews . . . it is BETTER than hl2. No, it is NOT based on a movie . . . it is a PREsequel (so the game designeers had FREEDOM to make a better game than any Riddick movie . . . . Even Pitch Blacl was barely 'fair'.

Won't be buying it soon? . . . your loss.

Have you taken that worn out platitude of patronism from an atheist phrase book? lol
I'm just expressing my own opinion, it's not a whinge about the producers themselves, more to do with the way business is. It's not as though people are forced to read what I say, it's not like audio. So relaaaaax buddy

Yeah apoppin, I am pretty negative, I'm nostalgic for the days when developers were given freedom. I know the Riddick game isn't based on the movie, I read the review and it's set in the time between movies. It's the film I thought was crap, but out out of skeptism I believe the game will have generic predictable plots and characters.

I'm always a few years behind buying games, I probably will end up with the game in a few years time in a compilation pack and buy then my PC specs will be high enough to enjoy this generation of games.

I just bought this game last week based on all the good reviews it got. For all the positive reviews and a cost of $30, I'm confident it will be worth it. I'll be firing it up within the next few weeks so I can't wait to play it.

"platitude of patronism"? :p

didn't know there was an athiest phrase book . . . most of the BS people quote as fact comes from the bible. :p

i AM relaxed. . . . . i am also expressing my opinion and this is the way i do it. ;)

i didn't bother to see Chron of Riddick yet (i'll get to it eventually on the "all the DVDs you can rent for $10 a month at Hollywood") . . . i don't care particularly much for Vin Diesel's movies.

HOWEVER, this game is DIFFERENT: "fresh" "intellegent" "clever" "total immersion" and a pretty good story and (excellent) gfx to boot. Plus it's already been bargainbinned - you can get it for ~$20. ;)

BTW, if your PC is not up to playing it . . . there is a good version out for Xbox.

I don't mean any offence by that, just that I thought it was funny - if you ever lurk in a religion "debate" room, you get both sides, usually the atheists though, banging on about their own rights to not be preached at even though they are as bad themselves. Im sure those rooms are a joke somehow hoho. Oh, the first part of the reply was for KnightBreed, Apoppin, you response was more level headed, sorry for the confusion.

I don't make it a point to hang around religious forums as I tend to find the zealots from both camps equally stubborn and unwilling to argue civilly.

I must admit I find your analogy confusing. I picture the gamers in this thread as the religious zealots, accepting any game released like table scraps fed to a dog. Then the atheiest shows up claiming everyone is wrong and and how the industry is dead and devoid of any imagination.

No matter, you play the games you like and I'll do the same. Cheers, MadEye, and happy holidays.

i get it now :)

and i stay OUT of religious discussions . . . there is never any point.

anyway, i stand by my recommendation of the Chron of Riddick - a game i was NOT expecting and i was very surprised by its hi-quality . . . if you don't have the PC HW to enjoy it, pick up the Xbox version. ;)

ANyway, i have learned to "wait" for FEW games (Serious Sam, Thief, NOLF and Max Payne being eXceptions - i will buy the latest in these series without reading reviews based on the strengths of their earlier games) . . . .

The link is the atheists in these abuse rooms say things like "don't oppress your beliefs on me" usually following up with their own opinions, likewise for their apparent "enemy". Those rooms can sometime be fun to watch, at other times maddening. So what's your agenda today?

You know it's interesting how you're trying to take the high ground now that somebody called you on your bullsh*t. You start off posting garbage like:
Ooooo, bullet time, psychic abilities, and "terror", if they throw in a rewind mode this will be the best game eva! Obviously it'll have an 18 certificate to make it appeal more to the 12 year olds who enjoy derivitive muck like this.
And then you're surprised somebody called you a pretentious prick? Should you have taken an approach more civil then calling anybody interested in this game a "12 year old" then I would have been less inclined to post.

Personally I think you're projecting your own pretentious and pompous nature, but then that's my opinion.

Oh yeah, I said it'll appeal more to 12 year olds because it'll probably have an 18 certificate.
