Greetings. I just wanted to share my thoughts on F.E.A.R. 3. I have been playing the FEAR games ever since the original came out in the mid 2000's. I loved that game and the multi-player component which I played for years! I purchased FEAR 2 a few years back, but did not really enjoy it that much. 2 was ok, but I was such a die-hard fan of the original... The new graphic, control and level designs just didn't live up to my expectations.

2011 brought FEAR 3. I read some review and read some of what was posted on forums which was not super positive. I decided to wait until it was a little cheaper. Over winter break, I picked it up on Green Man Gaming for ONLY $7.83. I must say, it may be the best $7.83 I have ever spent. The game doesn't have the best graphics or controls, but they are shabby either. I like the variety of level and the difficulty. It's not a cake-walk. In fact, I found it quite challenging at times. I just finished level 6 (aka interval 6). I have not done much with the multi-player yet. I have really enjoyed the game so far. :)

So, if you are a FEAR fan or just a FPS fan, then I would recommend heading over to Green Man Gaming and picking this game up. It's certainly worth the price in my humble opinion.

It's the only one in the series that I couldn't even bother to finish, nor did I miss it since.

Best play was Perseus Mandate, not even done by the same developers.

I'm also a fan of the FEAR. series.

I thought FEAR was outstanding. Great game with good controls and excellent AI, especially for 2004. I liked the various melee maneuvers and the lean implementation....something the next two games left out unfortunately (lean).

FEAR 2 was still a relatively fun game, but it didn't have the impact on me that the first one did. Still worth playing through....and I enjoyed the game. So far I think that FEAR 2 actually has the creepiest atmosphere, although the original did a fantastic job for the tech they had available at the time.

I'm not all the way through FEAR 3 yet, but there are some things I definitely don't like, and some things I do. The game seems to have a ton of gunplay...almost too much, and seems to emphasize getting points....even throwing up COD-style messages on the screen when you get multiple kills and headshots. WTF? Why does this even matter on a game that is supposed to be an immersive single player experience? It's cheesy and dumb and totally breaks the atmosphere.....obviously intended to keep the ADHD kiddies entertained.

I'm going to keep playing it because it has its moments, but overall I think FEAR 3 takes 3rd place in the series so far. Maybe I'll change my mind by the end. I'm still glad I bought it at that price....and so far it seems to be worth the playthrough.

FEAR always ends up striking me as a series that started out with so much potential......enough potential to be one of the best series in the genre, but ended up dropping the ball by not building on their foundation. The story was there. The characters were interesting and unique. The setting was haunting.....but the execution has gone downhill ever since.

Number 3 is ok but really there didn't need to be sequels. Sometimes a good game should just stand on it's own and be left unmolested.

I would agree, except for that the story wasn't resolved in F.E.A.R., which left room to make a sequel.

Unfortunately, they just didn't execute. FEAR 2 definitely didn't resolve, and really did no favors for the story. Beckett's whole story seems to be thrown in just to make the second game (lazy writing? money grab?) - - when it should have been about the real characters (Paxton and Point Man). The story went from unique and interesting in the first one, to ridiculous by the end of the second. It's pretty hard to take it seriously at this point.

I agree with you guys about FEAR being far, far, superior to its sequels.
It's just like the Godfather and the Matrix. The first one is awesome and then the first sequel is moderately worse and then the finale is an utter abortion. I haven't player FEAR 3 yet, but I'm expecting to be disappointed.

What I don't understand about the FEAR trilogy is that it took the developers 3 years to make a sequel and they still ****ed it up.
So, it obviously wasn't a quick-development cash-grab. Perhaps they are trying to cater to the 13 year-old spaz who claims that COD MWx is the greatest game ever made.

This is the most accurate post in the thread.

FEAR 1, and FEAR: Extraction Point were great games. Too bad they didn't make any sequels, right? :p

I enjoyed Doom 3 quite a bit when it came out. However, I liked Quake 4 much more.
Still, compared to either of those FEAR edges them IMO.

OT: I noticed in your sig that you only have 2GB of DDR2. I was going to put some in the freebies thread, but if you're interested, you've got first dibs.

Me too. I could go back and play the first one anytime though and still have a blast. I kinda miss F.E.A.R Combat too. I'd be grinning like a loon playing, with it's frenetic action, fun melee attacks and people exploding into clouds of blood all over the map.

Big fan of the original FEAR and one of the few who actually enjoyed the cinematic nature of FEAR2 and the route they went with it, some of the scares were truly epic.

FEAR 3 is easily one of the worst, most consolized FPS for PC I've ever played. The consolization of FEAR 2 was forgiveable because it have enough improvements in the cinematic nature of the game to balance those negatives out, so worked quite well. But FEAR 3 is just unforgiveably bad.
