f' corporate

it's just so typical that when a non-holiday holiday (the day after thanksgiving, christmas eve, new year's eve, etc) falls on a weekday, where management would be affected by having to come into work, they make sure it gets listed as an official company holiday so that everyone but a skeleton crew will have the day off.

but when they fall on a weekend, where only the data center techs and phone support guys get affected, of course it's not a holiday :|

<- working till 12 am on christmas eve and new year's even with no holiday pay? ftl.

/end rant

i know where i am if a holiday falls on a weekend, we either have friday or monday off in reserve of that holiday.

EDIT: n/m...misread OP...i never get days around holidays off....

get a better job... there is a reason they take advantage of you, because they can. You can probably be easily replaced, so they do what they want. Also, its probably vital that somebody works the phones that weekend.

remember that time you f'ed around in high school? im sure it was worth it.

ohhh burrrrn!! i like your style.

I've got a pretty good job.

I work for a major hosting company, so it's pretty vital that we're staffed 24/7... but we could easily get by with a skeleton crew on new year's eve. even our international clients will still be hungover. heh.

sorry, we can't all work M-F 9-5 jobs shuffling papers around 😉

I get the Friday or Monday off either way it falls. Plus if it's on a Tuesday or Thursday, I get 2 days off for the holiday.

You just said my reply in that last sentence. Just sounds like you needed to rant. You did. Feel better? 😛

bobdelt, if you ever want to know anything about me, feel free to ask, but baseless personal attacks really get under my skin. wtf do you know about my life in high school? 😉

yes 😀 but my feelings of goodwill will probably vanish sometime around 11:30 pm 12/31 as me and 4 of my coworkers sit around twiddling our thumbs waiting for someone to call or a server to go down. haha.

My company always give Thanksgiving and day after (even on weekends) and Christmas and day after for all....New years eve isn't a holiday, nor Christmas eve

My company doesn't like overtime. If a paid holiday falls on a weekday, they make you take it off, or another day off, so you won't go over your 40 hours for the week. Even though they don't pay overtime on the holiday hours, just normal hours, they still refuse to do so.

Well I dont, its called a joke. I dont know you at all and so I dont really care for you either.

however I do know you have a job that wont allow to take a day off for a holiday........

So my company sold a division to another company and some braintrust decided that the new company would have all the mailboxes by Jan 1st. We run Exchange with Blackberrys, they have Notes with Blackberrys. Guess who's working the weekend and Jan 1st?

Worked Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years day. Suck it up.

You get paid your base wage for those days?

I didn't think so.

I'm salary, no bonus for working holidays and weekends.

Don't worry, I'm sure that the boss will give you a nice thank you note when you're done working 70 hour shifts for the next month fixing all the problems that are going to arise from the Notes to Exchange migration.

You probably won't get a raise or bonus or anything substantial for that matter, but won't the thank you note be nice? 🙂 Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and even get to keep your job for a few more months before someone in management realizes that they can get some foreign contractors to create all these new mail accounts remotely for 1/10th the price.
