I have followed this plane since its early days when the contest for the contract to produce the F/A-22 was between Boeing and Lockheed Martin (obviously LM's design won). It is very exciting to see that it is now operational.

Boeing lost the JSF competition to Lockmart. Northrop's YF-23 lost the ATF competition to LM's YF-22.

Not really, you are correct, but the boeing part of the joing team did lose some battles in the design area

That has no specifics, but even watching a history channel show will go into detail about it.

Gorgeous planes! I hope they start funding more money on the infantries now that air superiority has been established (and will be for awhile).

Huh, and yet the Su-35 typically scores a 1.3-1.5:1 against an F15.

This is reported by the British Aerospace and the British Defense Research Agency.

This is comparing planes using missles similar to the Aim-120 AMRAAM.

The AA-11 Archer R-73 was designed to deal with the F16 and F15. It is a missle that, similar to on the F18 is attached to the head of the pilot and can be fired without getting the plane into a position to attack.

The AA-11 can also be used on older planes which will now be able to effectively handle the US' highly maneuverable F-15 and F-16 jets. The AA-11 missile is based on all-new components, use new high-energy solid fuel and an advanced guidance and control system which has made it possible to minimize their size. Their exceptionally high accuracy is ensured by the missile's main secret, the so-called transverse control engine, which rules out misses during the final approach trajectory. The transverse control engine is still without parallel in the world.

The only issue with this missle is it has about a 10 km smaller range them the Aim-120.

Su-30MKI's have already bested the F-15. The Mig-29 has beaten the F-16. The EF-2000 will easily shoot down anything the US has to offer.

You need to put the crack down.

NOTHING can best a Raptor. Period. End of story. It is the cats ass of planes right now. Sure, maybe something is a bit more agile in the air, but that means squat. We dont do close in dog fighting anymore. And besides, no plane will even know the Raptor is there until they see the missile streak in the air.

Its a beautiful thing. Heres to the Raptor.

Too bad manned airplanes are a thing of the past. Unmanned planes are the way of the future: no worries about G forces, extremely manuverable, no worries of loss of life, less payload, more room for weapons, etc, etc.

Have you guys seen this plane up close? It's freaking hugh. I was playing golf down in Marietta, GA last year and one flew over low and slow, it had two F16's flying as chase planes and the F16's looked like Cessnas next to it.

Why do they still bother to put guns on these planes? It's not like it will ever be used...

That's all well and good until some old RUssian fighter starts shooting at you.
Plus, pilots are often subject to rules of engagement that require visual id before you shoot. If you're that close, a gun is often the best or only option.

Remember a lot of the new technology developed just for the F-22 ended up being used with the F-35 as well.

I remember you posting those same pics a couple times before. Seems we decided they were enhanced? At least, I did. 🙂

Seems I missed that from the other ONE time I posted these. Seems I also don't care what you think either. I tend to not revist threads after I post and say my peice as I probably did in the original thread I posted the pics in. Therefore your "debate" to the authenticity of the pics is lost on me for the simple fact I don't care.

Maybe I should point out to you that these pics came from a guy I know who is a government contractor at Langley who worked on the Raptor project. That doesn't mean they're NOT touched up and or modified, but it's highly unlikely.

But you're the pro, so I'll just take your word for it.

Can't America promote PEACE instead of WAR????

Peace through STRENGTH, you don't get respect by handing out lollypops to your enemies

Peace through POWER. Reminds me of NOD's slogan on C&C.

Reminds me of this:

War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength, big brother is watching.

Jesus, dude. Chill. They do look touched up. Others said the same before when you or someone else posted the exact same pics. Sorry you didn't see it. Though seems I remember you arguing the same thing with someone else then.

A lot of people don't realize how large planes like the F-15 are either, until they get close enough to one in real life. I know I didn't.
The F-15 is about 1-2 ft longer than the F-22.

Touched up? They look like they're straight out of a computer game, especially the one where the F-22s inverted.

mmm..lollypops

If we give them enough lollypops, steaks, mcdonalds, strippers and whores, they'll become really fat, lazy and useless.

Just like America? 😛

(just kidding) 😉
