edit: one pilot's parachute may not have opened 🙁

eh? one pilot? You mean THE pilot?

F-18 is single seater, right? Or was it a trainer?

I don't know. The eyewitnesses said 2 ejected. Maybe they saw 1 pilot and something else. And you know how reliable eyewitness testimony is. 😉 edit: Now they're saying 2 seater trainer.

It looks like that neighborhood is near an empty mountain. I wonder if the pilot could have steered the plane over into the unpopulated mountain side.

"The Boeing F/A-18E and F Super Hornet is a supersonic carrier-capable fighter/ground-attack aircraft. The F/A-18E single seater and F/A-18F two-seater are larger and more advanced derivative of the F/A-18C and D Hornet."

The second seat is for Weapons Systems Officer.

I believe there are 2 seater models used as trainers.

Edit: Oh I hit refresh and there are like half a dozen replies above me, 1 with the answer.

Based on the location of the rv shown in the live feed and in the street view of google maps it looks like 4371 huggins st was demolished.

Sweet! Some good treasure hunting to be made. Can you imagine having a real missile in your room to show off to your friends?

If it crashed into a ghetto neighborhood, I'll be more worry about the pilot.

Otherwise, I hope no one else on the ground got injured.

I dunno, I'd first post on ATOT asking if I need to worry about radioactive leaks, etc. first... then I'd show it off.

Even when crashing, the pilots are expertly trained to try and pick a spot to ditch causing as little damage as possible. I am sure there is no fault on the pilot, they're awesome at their job.

heh.. i was just listening to fighter jets zooming around and crashing, and people mourning just a few hours ago when my apartment mates were watching top gun...

*puts on tinfoil hat*

um....
how does any jet accident happen?

shit breaks. Maintenance attempts to keep everything functioning properly, but there are a multitude of things that can fail and cause a crash.

Just from the location of the crash, looks like the pilot knew he would go down, and tried to hit the gap between North University City and South University City, but slightly missed. Everyone I know lives in the north part, and could return home within a few hours, though they had to evacuate a 2.5 mile radius.
