I have found two extended cab F-150s that I like in my area. I am going to leave work early tomorrow to hopefully buy one or the other.

Now these are identical as far as I am concerned. Except for one thing. One has a 40/20/40 split bench and the other has bucket seats up front. From pictures I have seen, the center console is eqaully functional in either setup.

So, what are the pros/cons of these setups?

As a side note, the one with bucket seats is a nice dark red color. My son who is 6 wants me to get a new red vehicle granted that Mustang Cobra he likes is not going to happen. So, if it is a toss up I will get he red one to see my sons face.

EDIT: Actually the one that I think is the 40/20/40 split has front seats that are part of the XLT convenience package. That means it has power seats. Does that mean it also has lumbar support? Seams like manual lumbar support is somewhat standard for ext cab XLTs

Compromise with your son and get a supercharged F-150 SVT Lightning

my ford F-350 work truck has manual lumbar, so i would venture to guess that all of the trucks do.

if you will be traveling with another and your son often i would probably go for the bench. but if not i would go for the better comfort of buckets, assuming there is a difference.

What engine did you end up with and why? I'm considering a new F150 with the ecoboost v6, but I'm not sold yet.

I got a 06 F-150 Supercrew, XLT Package with the 40/20/40 front seats. I've used the front seat a few times that I needed to carry 6 people. There's been other times that I've had the backseat filled with stuff, and was still able to drive with 3 people in the front seat. It was nice feature to have. The driver seat is powered, the passenger/middle bench is not.

The choice really depends on whether or not you have the need to utilize that third seat.

My only regret in the purchase was getting a 5.5' bed vice the 6.5'. The one foot difference would have made a difference a often enough that the extra length would have been nice.

I'm getting the V6 weithout eco boost. I think ecoboost is 3.5L and normal is 3.7L. I'm getting the non-ecoboost engine becqause it gets better fuel economy.

Ya, that extra foot is night and day for things like 4x8 sheets of anything.

I'd get an 8' bed if it wern't for the additional cost.

I think I am going to go check out the bucket seat model first.
