EZ-Pass mailed me a ticket for illegally passing through a toll, but I own an EZ-Pass unit!

Has anyone had to deal with this before? If so are they pretty good about removing the violation? I have an EZ-Pass unit inside of my car, and I dont do anything like hold it up to the windshield, I actually have it mounted in my car. It has always worked for me except for this one time (apparently when I was heading back to VA after Thanksgiving). I can't imagine why it didn't work since I was driving the entire time around 35 miles per hour (damned traffic on route 95!) ... But perhaps the heavy rain on that day screwed up their system.

In any case, I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem, and if so, was EZ-Pass good about removing the violation quickly. The only problem I can forsee is that since I just moved to VA from NJ, my EZ-Pass is probably still registered under my old NJ license plates and not my VA ones. Well, thanks to anyone who can help :)

Well, the problem with mailing them a picture of my EZ-Pass unit is that the unit doesn't say anything on it to identify that it is for my car. It does probably identify that it is owned by my parent's account which has 4 cars attached to it, one of which is my car (but with my NJ state license plate) ...

I can't believe the charge for this stupid thing is like $28.00 too ... $3.00 for the toll, and $25.00 as an "Administration fee" ... I guess it is supposed to cost a lot of money to deter people who don't have EZ-Pass from going through the toll ... I just hope their customer service is good enough that they can remove the charge.

Most of the toll people will waive the $25 fee if you're a first time offender and just tell them that you didn't know it was EZ Pass. However, in your case, since you did know it was EZ Pass and do own an EZ Pass (are you sure it has enough money stored in it?), you could maybe take a picture of the front of your car with the license plate and EZ Pass on the front.

<< what is a ezpass unit? >>

I believe it's a unit that sends a signal to the toll both of a toll highway that you're a monthly payer of the toll. It let's you go through without having to deposit change at every booth.

You know what kills me, I examined the bill closer, and the place that it claims I went through the toll illegally was on the Delaware Memorial Bridge. And I remember going through that toll at around 2 mph, and even stopping in the toll booth because traffic was SO bad that day on the bridge and then merging from the bridge to get onto Route 95. Unfortunately, whats going to need to happen is my parents are going to have to call EZ-Pass first to update my license plate in the EZ-Pass database before I can call them to claim that my car really has EZ-Pass. Grr.

Oh and btw- EZ-Pass is just like AmusedOne said. It is an electronic system that lets you go through toll booths without really stopping (you have to slow down to around 15mph). You don't need to pay anything at the time, discounts are usually given for tolls (like paying $1.00 instead of $1.50 or something like that) ... Plus there is usually a shorter line, or no line at all to pass through the toll.

I also know I had enough money on my EZ-Pass, because it is done by Credit Card, so whenever my account gets depleted, it charges another $20.00 to my parent's credit card... (I really should get my own EZ-Pass, but my parents dont seem to mind paying for my drives back and forth from their house in NJ to my apartment in VA) :)

I got a ticket in the mail with my Fastrak. It is the same thing we use in the bay area. I called them up on the phone and they said no problem. They thought the batt. was bad so they sent me a new one and I traded it out. No more problems and it was quick and easy.

Good luck.
