i was always under the impression that the easiest text to read is white text on a black background. this is from experience too, i was a delivery driver for years and i LOVED the mailboxes that had white numbers on a black backdrop... it was so much easier to see

so whats the deal with this? yellow with black text? it seems like it would give me a headache!

Green background with yellow text was supposed to be easiest on the eyes, at least for reading text on computer monitors.

i believe there were studies done, black text on yellow won out on visibility/ease to read. That's why most warning traffic signs are yellow diamond with black symbol in the US.

probably has to do with the number of red vs blue and green cone sensors in the retina.

the keyboard in this case is being seen with reflected light so monitor/emmisive light rules dont apply. technically green is the most neutral color of human visible spectrum, yellow is next closest. readability is also dependent on font.

The name is rather misleading. The keyboard is supposed to be easy to read, not easy on the eyes.
Yellow/black is the largest contrast you can get, and the letters are large and bold. Makes sense if your vision isn't very good.

Also this is clearly designed at old people, and maybe they ran the risk of infringement with just large-print keys, so they added the yellow color.

Any web page that has black background with white type is promptly removed, hate it, my eyes hate it. :thumbsdown:

i dont know why im so weird then. i used to read harocp all the time. i loved the black background with light colored text. the black background took a TON of strain off my eyes. i dont know why people like a whole page of white blaring in their face all day.

Do you keep your room pitch black when you use your computer? If so, then a white background will give you eyestrain.

yep. work all day and usually use the computer at night before bed. i suppose i forgot about the ambient light factor.

Yep, a huge difference between the monitor's brightness and the ambient light in the room will cause eyestrain. Most inexpensive monitors come set to a ridiculous brightness level out of the box (helps them stand out in the store), so you could try turning that down. Hell, even expensive monitors do the same damn thing. I just checked the U2410 that I'm using right now and it's set to 15 percent brightness, which is just about perfect for me in a well-lit room.
