I have a condition... "posterior blepharitis - also known as meibomitis". Hundreds of little glands line your eyelid and release fluid to keep your eyes moist throughout the day. Mine get clogged with oil, which obviously means my eye doesn't receive the lube it needs =)
It started in high school... I thought I had pink eye for like a week, but my eyes didn't really puss or itch, they were just dry and pink/red. It usually only happens in one eye, and only one side of the eye, almost always the outter part of the eye.
At that point I figured it was because I was playing Asheron's Call (mmorpg) way too much, like 6 hours a day after school. I cut out the computer and I would still get it. So then I thought it was because my dog slept at the foot of my bed. Kicked him out, eyes would still do it. Then I figured allergies, so I went to the doctor. Gave me special eye drops that did nothing, and putting visine in eye only made the eye worse.
So, it's been 4 or 5 years of this. It's not something I worry about because it only happens like once or twice a month and my eye is usually only red for a day. But I'm very self conscious about it, especially when people are like "Hey, your eye is red." I always wanna say "Oh, thanks for telling me that, it's not like I live on a fscking planet without mirrors." When a person walks around with a limp people aren't like "Hey, you're limping." "Hey, you don't have an arm" "Nice wheel chair"
The only way to get rid of my condition is to use warm compresses daily to help 'melt' the clogs and massage my eye lids. The only thing to help in the mean time is to use preservative free artificial tears, but they don't lube the eye nearly as well as natural tears. Any of yas have this condition as well? I've found that a couple other computer nerds like me have developed it.
