Does this conversation stem from the women in India ( or some other country) who licks people eyeballs to clean them?

I kissed my dog on the head once and she licked my eyeball. I damn near threw her across the room it was so weird

Wouldn't that be painful? Maybe it's just me, but just tap water or rain water makes my eyes burn. Saliva has some mild digestive enzymes in it. I can't imagine that would be a good thing for eyes.

the only digestive enzymes in saliva do is break up starches.

i'd be more worried about the fact that there's loads of bacteria in saliva, but i'm sure the tears surrounding the eyeball have some sort of protection to that sort of thing.
