How would you instruct someone to blur their vision?

Imagine pulling your upper and lower eye lids back without touching them. That's as close as I can get. Please help me.

tell them to try to focus on an imaginary object either in front or behind the object they're currently focusing on.

I can blur my vision on demand, but its kinda hard to explain how I do it. I have a defect called Aesotropia (lazy eye), I think that may have something to do with it...

Have them focus on their hand, or an object directly in front of them. Then, not changing their eye's focal point, move that object.

Nice one. You don't even need to change your focal point to notice the blurred background.

Anyone else have any ideas?
