Hi all, I have an eye exam scheduled for tomorrow to try and get some soft contacts. I have not worn contacts in a long time, so I don't know all the details, but I have a few questions I hope you guys can help me with. I still prefer wearing my glasses, I'm not a big fan of having go deal with contacts, but I'm going on a trip next month that involves scuba diving and such, so I figure contacts is needed.

I don't plan on wearing my contacts all the time, probably a couple of times a week when I'm doing physical activities that glasses normally would be a hindrance.

Are there any online vendors that I can get contacts for cheap?

I was talking with my Optometrist earlier and he said that when I come in for my eye exam, he will test my eyes and recommend a kind of contact that would be best suited for my eyes, is it a good idea to get contacts from my optometrist, or could I save more money by buying somewhere else?

any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!
 
Have a Costco near you? For my prescription they were the cheapest I could find. Usually have a rebate.
Your doc will recommend a brand for you. Ask for 2 weeks of samples from a few different brands to see which are the most comfortable. Order the ones you like the best then.

I have been using acquacomfort plus dailies for the past couple of years. Was using some bausch and lomb ones before that.

How does that actually work. Do contact makers really make samples for you based on your prescription?

If you're a normal person (unlike me), they'll have samples in your prescription available. They'll just stick you with the closest correction and curvature and make sure you're comfortable in them before ordering some with your exact specs.

also, look into orthokeratology lenses. they are a type of hard lens that temporarily corrects your eye. you wear the lenses to sleep and take them out when you wake up. i've had them for almost 10 years now and they are amazing. honestly, they're pretty freakin awesome.

I'm probably going to wear glasses for a few more years and then do the lasik corrective thing. I'm going for contacts just so I can wear it for an hour or two each day when I go work out or do outdoor activities.

The doc should have a bunch of different brands/types that they will give you to test.
Dailies, 2 week, month long.
I prefer the comfort of the dailies. Doesn't feel like I am wearing any, and a fresh pair every day. it's nice.

If you are going to wear glasses most of the time, look into the dailies. I think 2 week ones will start to dry up on you if you are only wearing them once or twice a week. Order a 3 month supply of dailies and it won't hit the pocket book so hard.

That's what I did except now my eyes are fucked and I have to wear hard contacts to correct the HOAs from LASIK.
