Eye Candy Movie Reccomendations

Any movie that has a straight digital transfer (eg, Pixar stuff, FF:SW, Appleseed Ex Machina) is a good candidate.

I really think Crank is tops when it comes to video quality. While it's not an absolute favorite of mine, it is a title that I deemed worthy enough to purchase. The film angles and flow is very well done (they basically had a camera man on roller blades with a digital video cam shooting a lot of the fast paced chase sequences. Fifth Element (the re-mastered version) is quite good (and one of my fav movies of all time)... and of course cars/rat are awesome. All of the harry potter movies are pretty good... as are the pirates movies...

Cars and Ratatouille are phenomenal.

I also like Kingdom of Heaven, Fantastic 4 - Silver Surfer, and Casino Royale as "eye candy" films. I can also vouch for the Pirate of the Carribean films as being gorgeous (though I wouldn't vouch for them as movies)

ah, don't forget "Tears of the Sun"

great picture, and probably right up your alley in terms of action/plot. Great payoffs, too.

kinda surprised you mention Casino Royale, as i didn't think it had the visual appeal you're looking for. edit: i forgot Caterina Murino. as a life-long bond fan, i gotta say Casino Royale and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are the only 2 worth a damn. YAY for more good 007 movies and YAY for more daniel craig!

HEHE,, You forget the Intro animated Movie. lols

yes that's all it takes. "" Nowadays, anyhow ""

"PurdueRy" Why do you dislike the movie. Honestly Did you not notice Monica Bellucci in the film???? I know she's older now, But still VERY VERY hawt.

One girl that is somewhat hot is not going to get me to like a movie. The entire movie was just about as stupid as action can get, and I realize that was the purpose. I don't mind a fun action movie, but this movie was making fun of itself. Because of that, I can't get into it. Just to note: I can tell our movie tastes are very different just from which you listed that you liked. That is obviously the predominant reason we disagree here.

I shall not try to persuade you, but I can't help feel that those who are So Hard on movies believe in some way that the creators are out to get them.

I would agree if you just hate shelling out hard earned for disappointment, but it's hard to believe that there is ever enough to make one hate.

When you feel like watching the movie was a waste of time, it's enough to make me hate it.

Many of my faves have already been mentioned but I see no one has yet recommended "Master and Commander : The Far Side of the World" so I will. The cinematography is simply some of the best I've seen in a long while.

I don't think of that movie as eye candy, but I most definitely appreciate it for the audio. The 4th scene where the French ship attacks can really show you the differences of quality signal processing. On a good receiver, you hear all sorts of pings and chips where the cannonballs hit the ship.

Why is it animated movies look so good in HD?

Because they are done digitally from the start, there is no film grain to be had.

Add to that the eye popping colors often used and you have your reasons.

i have a 1080p of Ice Age: The Meltdown . it does look very impressive as far as eye candy 🙂

when are we going to start seeing more selections at blockbuster? i'm starting to run out of BD movies to watch :frown:

This thread is starting to sound a lot like my dad's ideal type of movies. If something's not blowing up, someone's not being shot, or a car chase isn't occurring, he loses interest. 🙂

OP, if you thought No Country was boring (which is shocking that anybody could think this about this movie), you'll want to stay away from Into the Wild. I have a feeling it will be too slow for you.

Not to get into a side discussion about movies in general, but I can't stay silent on a couple things. 1) How could The Departed not win best picture that year?! This is a top-notch movie with great acting and a strong story. 2) The whole premise behind Crank is abysmal--keep your adrenaline pumping to counteract a toxin?! Physiologically that's impossible! With the exception of The Italian Job, Jason Statham hasn't made a good movie since leaving the UK and Guy Richie.

In all seriousness, I know everybody has their own tastes in movies and I don't want to come off attacking people for liking certain movies (though I might if your favorite movie list includes Titanic! 😛). It's great that everyone likes different types of movies; that's why we get such a variety nowadays.

One of the best sounding scenes ever made.

Ranks up there with the T-rex scene from JP as one of the best sounding scenes ever.

I'd also vote for No Country for Old Men... not that great of a movie, but some of those panoramic shots of the wilderness looked REALLY cool.

While you're playing with your HDTV, I recommend watching some of the concert shows on MTV HD. Most of them are broadcast at 1080i with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, and look and sound really good.

my vote goes for appleseed ex machina. some screens were almost breathtaking

any one when the originals released on blu ray

thanks

I just finished Watching The LOTR Movies Extended Edition in 1080 with the 5.1 DTS playing. They looked and sounded AMAZING.

Children of men in 1080p is excellent as well.

Equilibrium has some incredible eye candy as well.

Fight Club and Gladiator both sound amazing (when people get punched in fight club it makes you shiver) The tiger scene in gladiator is visually and aurally amazing.

Into The Wild is INCREDIBLE in high definition, all of those vistas in a super high resolution were amazing, and the movie is fantastic as well, one of my favorites. Aurally is is pretty good as well, but if you like Eddie vedder the sound track is amazing.

I'd recommend picking up Pink Floyd's The Wall in DVD-Audio form for an excellent sound test, also Yoshimi by the flaming lips, and the Beatles Love Album.

The Day After Tomorrow is a gerat eye candy movie as well, when all hell breaks loose its a feast for the eyes.

300 Looks/Sounds amazing and is a great movie to show off your home theater system with a bunch of buddies. I showed my friends a comparison of the dvd to the HD version and they were blown away.

Shooter - A great guy flick and some excellent detail in the high def version, the explosions look amazing on a big screen.

Starship Troopers / Terminator 2 / Young Guns - All of these movies were wastes of HD, all still looked milky and not "clear" but had decent soundtracks in 5.1 (with the exception of starship troopers)

Pan's Labyrinth - This movie took my breathe away in theaters and on dvd. In HD, in the comfort of my own home theater, I was BLOWN AWAY. It is a testament to the HD era.

Transformer's - This was AMAZING in HD. An excellent showcase piece and the end battle was amazing.

Hope that helps. I will post more movies as I watch them.

It was released on Blu-ray last month. Text

For some reason only the environment/landscapes and animations look good to me in HD. I can't really tell that much of a difference from SD for people.

no problem Muadib, my mistake, when i said originals, i meant original. its appleseed. theres a 3rd one coming.

im not the greatest fan of manga/anime myself, but appleseed 1 and 2, have merged animation and CGI incredibly. its very vivid. not sure if there is anything else out there in the same league

btw skulkingghost where did you see LOTR and fight club in HD. I would LOVE to see fight club on blu ray...

thanks

I can find no info on Appleseed coming to Blu-ray. If Ex Machina does well though, I think it's just a matter of time.

Really? that's one of the things I have noticed the most. For example I've watched Reservoir Dogs about 150 times (give or take). Half of those viewings were on VHS, then almost the entire other half on DVD. When I got the Blu-Ray a few weeks ago, it was the definition on the actors' faces that really stood out to me. I was able to see every line on their faces, the hairs on their head, in great detail. It almost felt like a new movie and I've now watched it 4 times on BD and am still blown away everytime.

By the way, I'm very disturbed that Pulp Fiction has not come out on BD yet. Looks as if it is delayed indefinitely: http://www.releaselists.com/BLURAYNorthAmerica.html :|

Anyone know when Trainspotting will be out on Blu Ray in the U.S.? I was just in Japan and saw it released there, but it had no English track and it was also $50. I got so excited when I saw it but can't seem to find anything on when it'll be released in the U.S.
