I'm not sure anyone saw this as a surprise. Trump was always for the rich getting richer.

And lol at the euro thing, like ExxonMobil is going to bring money or jobs to the states in mass with drilling over there.

Oh, obligatory "Russian ties is fake news"

And does anyone know who in the government would approve the sanctions waiver??? Hmm ... I wonder.

Exxon bought all the rights to drill. They paid 500 Billion. No way they sell. Buyer would take advantage because of sanctions. Pennies on the dollar

Huh? Exxon hasn't paid anywhere near $500 billion. That's a decades long figure of investment. They’re exposed to about a billion in losses from their joint ventures there if nothing is done.

Saying other countries are doing something isn't a reason to participate in that same action. Its like a kid asking his mom to let him play with a snake because the neighbor lets his kid play with a snake. The response is simple. No waiver because putin is a snake and his government is in a slow collapse.

What is Putin supposed to be in the analogy and how does it relate back? The snake? Your argument is based on deontology. Deontology is stupid.

Are you referring back to my post? Nowhere did I say it would. And something similar can be said about this deal. This isn't going to superpower Putin's Russia into some new Soviet Union.

Exxon has argued the sanctions should be consistent. From some research, I've found that Italy's Eni has access to both Barents and Black sea, so maybe a third of the potential oil reserves. And it appears they can take over Exxon's projects if Exxon doesn't get it.

Also, most European countries have been moving away from and some are completely independent of Russian oil/energy now, by either switching more to Natural gas or just other suppliers (yeah yeah, global market, whatever). I don't see much of an argument re: if Exxon doesn't get the contract, then some European conglomerate will.

Bottom line. Russia needs sanctions lifted and high oil prices to make this work.

Trump is on the way to giving him both. If they approve the waiver and the instability he is fomenting around the world will cause oil futures to rise.

Mark my words.

Just keeping the tape from seeing the light of day. Pretty understandable.

Ridiculous.

It's not just party before country, it's business before country too with these fools. Unbelievable.

The conflict of interest with this admin is off the charts, these treasonous assholes really have no shame. May the coming shitstorm flush this turd and his nuggets away for good.

Trump is all about business (more specifically, money) before country or anything for that matter.

The repubs are about putting the party before the country and they will support trump in order to push their agenda (just look at what's been their focus for the first 100 days), but the moment trump stops being useful to them (like working with the dems) they will turn on him in a heart beat, mark my words.

What an unexpected turn of events! Great, even though I'm not sure who really deserves the thanks: Trump, Ivanka, Jared? Sure as hell wasn't Tillerson.

And yeah, what Maxima said: does this mean pee tapes are inbound? I'm staying tuned to this for sure.

Or maybe, just maybe, Exxon hasn't sweetened Trump's pot enough yet. Trump can hold out as long as he likes to get as much as he can out of this "deal" and any others that he can leverage his presidency with. It's what he was, is and will be way after his term.

This stint as POTUS is an irritating temporary job that he can and will exploit just like he's been doing with every other opportunity that is impossible for him to pass up. It's in his genes.

He's a businessman first and foremost. That he refuses to let go of his business holdings in order to concentrate his all to lead the nation is more than enough proof of that. It's also proof that he puts himself first before country and screw anybody that doesn't like it.

I would be ok with this if Russia left Crimea

They won't. I figure that the people who live there, 85% Russian, are probably happy that they don't have to deal with the fucked up Ukrainian govt & the fascist ultranationalists of true Ukrainian blood....

Denial was unexpected. Lets see if a bulk relax of the sanctions follows at a later time that basically negates the need for the waiver in the first place.
