It was all in good humor guys
I'm good friends with a couple of the Extreme guys and I think what they've done with the site is great. Is it AnandTech? No, but we don't aim to be ExtremeTech either. Two different sites with two different backgrounds.
But in order to set the record straight...
1) I wasn't the one to load up AT on their computers, I respect their territory; although I will say that there were quite a few AT supporters around their booth
2) I actually suggested the building showdown, they wouldn't accept
I was kind of disappointed, I expected the PC building contest to be from scratch, you pick out the motherboard, CPU, memory, etc... and build it all. Instead it ended up being a contest to see who could screw in three drives and three PCI cards the fastest. e-phex from our forums was there, I actually showed up to cheer him on. He did pretty well, I'm sure he would've done better had the contest been putting a computer together from scratch instead of just throwing a few drives in a case. Maybe next time?
There's no harm in a bit of friendly rivalry, keeping in mind the world friendly of course and that's all this was intended to be. Bill is a good guy, he's the one that was defending the record for this contest I believe.
People like Bill and Nick Stam from Extreme were writing about technology before I could even walk, they've definitely got my respect.
Take care,
Anand
