ATI card still won most of tests with no AF.
AF would have killed the 7900 GTX cards

really? may i ask what you base that on?

o_O You're not aware that the x1900 line scales better with AA than the 7 Series?

he stated AF

On the other hand why would they use AA+HDR when the competitor hasn't got this feature?.. What sort of comparison would that be?

since there's much talk about upgrading pc's to run oblivion, wouldn't it make sense to incl. hdr+af on ati cards to show it's potential (or lack thereof)? seems to me that would be of service to people who read these reviews to help them choose the right hardware for them.

i mean, if not to provide info and help educate readers, what's the purpose of these comparisons? tech-porn? tho in that case hq+af would be "hardcore", so they should incl. it anyway ;)

well, hdr + aa, what will u compare that to ? just hdr? just aa? nvidia would win out that way

you guys forget how sm3.0 was not used many times to compare x800/x850 to 6*00 series since they couldnt do them

Actually majority of the FarCry reviews would have a seperate graph table just to show how the 6800 series handled HDR.

If you're trying to show people the difference between two cards, and one is missing a feature, there's no reason to not show the performance impact of that feature. This way a potential buyer could determine for themselves if the extra feature is the worth it or not. Right now, all that is left up to the imagination. Also, who in their right minds is going to pay $600 and not use AF?

hey joker, think you can find me a great deal for a crossfire card? No rebates, though -- that's cheating. :)

Why would they need to compair with those features? Are those comparisons not available elsewhere?

One game should not be the whole of a graphics card purchase. One should also look at other things and features of the card they want.

I would only call this incomplete if it didn't do what it set out to do. And it looks like a pure speed matchup. That will help as a nice baseline when looking at other matchups (you look at more then 1 review right?).

ANd I can't get the links to work on the site for whatever reason but it looks like it has a link to another Oblivion NVidia vs. ATI matchup.

Of course they should have included AF in their tests, I cannot seem to grasp the absence of it, in some benchmarks lately.. Otherwise, what are we testing console settings only at higher resolutions? I'm not picking a high end card to play w/o AA/AF.. I cannot stand the blur and the jaggies o_O :)

I stated that there isn't a practical reason to use AA+HDR except from what Robert stated.. But they haven't included a variety of other settings for their benchmarks, HDR+AA would be the last thing they should have included, their benchmarks seem so poor compared to the variety of settings that Firingsquad used.. they could have just included it with some comparison pics and numbers as a nice benchmark review about a game would have done for informative purposes.. I'm sure FS would have included it if Chuck's patch was available at the time of the review..
