well

ill state the obvious

make sure all your drivers and directx are updated

if that doesn't work, uninstall your radeon and install a standard vga adaptor

then install the radeon

if that doesn't work, you can always reinstall windows... its good to do from time to time anyway

Uh..... drivers? Do you have the best drivers?

Do you have your latest chipset drivers?

Have you removed every last freakin trace of nvidia drivers from your system?

Edit: I told you guys the GFX 5900 performed better. :p

Was a brand new install. Installed Cat 3.5, ATI Control Panel and DX9.
Also have installed Intel chipset drivers..

Is that 5600 score an unoverclocked vidcard? I Have P4 2.53ghz, 512mb corsair ram, and Radeon 9800pro, with the card clocked at stock and CPU at 2.75ghz, I get 5686. That?s using cat 3.4 drivers, in 3dmark 03, when I use cat 3.5 drivers, I lose about 200 points. So yeah if that?s unoverclocked vid card your systems about where it should be, if it is still overclocked, your score is a little low.

There is a patch for Radeon cards with CS...never needed it (can't afford Rad97/9800 Pro yet :() so don't know where it is, but there is some patch for CS :)

I might not be right on this, but I thought the patch for the Radeon Cards (9700 in particular) was for black screen crashes.. I have an 9800 and Cat 3.5 and I dont think i'm affected by this crashing problem but more by performance bug.

try to set it back to stock speed, and install Omega driver (Cat 3.4). I suggest dont use Cat 3.5 yet.

Haven't tried any other games as I strictly play CS.. that's why this is crucial for me.. Slow FPS really frustrate me and I didnt even think this was feasible with a P4P800/2.6C and a R9800Pro on a 5 Year Old game.

open the Console in CS, and type fps_max 100 try that
and set the speed to stock and install Omega driver (Cat 3.4)

not sure if you've been to Rage3D yet, but lots of people have CS problems with Radeon cards. Head over to their forums and prepare to read LONG threads on the topic.

FPS Max is set at 100. I think i might have a hint of what the problem is since I copied the config from the old computer and it might have included a lot of visual effects that were reduced to improve FPS on the old machine but might hurt the new config (reduced mipmap levels). I'm gonna try deleting the config and having CS create a new one and starting over and seeing how it goes..

Truform is off but according to Rage3D, half the owners of ATI cards have this problem. What a ridiculous concept.

What's your framerate when the card isn't overclocked?

(has no idea why someone would waste time overclocking a R9800...)

The problem is not with the overclock. After doing some reading I found out that this is a known issue with CS and HL as had been said. No matter how powerful the system, the problem occurs, yet I haven't been able to find a fix or even the root of it. If anyone has any experience or suggestions please chime in..

If you've been reading the rage3d forums you'll see that there is no fix for it. Try bumping down to cat 3.1's. I think the problem didn't show up until 3.2. Send in your system specs (o/s, all hardware, driver versions, directx version etc. etc.) to the ATI driver team and keep your fingers crossed that they fix this issue soon.

i play cs with my 9700 pro and everything is running fine. I'm using the Catalyst 3.4 drivers right now. I get 100fps constantly.
