Recently, I am doing a series of DVD burning using Nero 7 at my office. And I am experiencing the problem that the computer burn DVD extremely slow, which it took about 1 hour to burn one 4.3GB data to DVD. Sounds like it only burn DVD at the speed of 1X. I have tried to set the burning speed to the fastest in Nero, but the situation still remain same. The DVD burner that I am using is Samsung "TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D" burner, and the PC's processor is AMD Athlon 1.15GHz with 768MB of RAM. Do you know why it burns that slow? Is the hardware problem? Or, it is the settings problem?

My experience in burning DVDs using Nero 7 Ultra are...
* CPU usage is very high the higher the compression, therefore the longer it takes.
* Ending all non-essential programs helps with speed.

Your 1.15GHz Athlon & memory is no speed demon. :(

I used to use a Celeron 900 with 512 MB of RAM and Nero 7, I think. Didn't take me that long to burn a DVD. So there's probably something else going on.

Better question is what are you burning?
* Raw data
* Converting mpegs to DVD video
* Copying DVDs

Make sure that in device manager\IDE controller\Advanced settings that the transfer mode hasn?t changed back to PIO mode (happens occasionally).

If so uninstall driver and reboot and Win should install again using DMA mode for the cd.
