Extremely slow boot + unresponsive desktop

Hello, recently my computer got a virus. It boots up either extremely slow to desktop (10+ mins), or not at all (in which case I restart). Same with trying to boot into safe mode.
Now when I do get into my desktop, my wallpaper is set to this phony "you're pc is infected with spyware" message, and I can't change it. Also all the icons on the desktop are gone. I'm not able to right click since nothing will happen, and I'm virtually unable to do anything.
Now when I boot into safe mode, everything seems fine, but the system is still sluggish. In safe mode I'm able to get into the menu to change the wallpaper, but not actually change it since the list of wallpapers is unclickable. I'm unable to open firefox/IE, but I'm able to open google chrome, however it fails to connect to any webpages.
I ran spybot/ad aware/avast, and detected and eliminated all viruses/spyware it detected but the problem still persists.
I tried system recovery once, it didn't help. When I tried to system recovery again an error box popped up saying it will not work and for me to restart and try again.
I tried to fix windows via the repair option on the windows xp installer cd, but it said something along the lines of C: is corrupt and it was unable to repair.

SOunds like your due for a complete wipe and reinstall. Back up the data you need. Be sure not to back up any system files or folders to avoid passing any infection to the fresh install.

that flux.exe looks to be something bad, the hijackthis log site I use is saying it's safe but when I Googled it it seems it's some sort of worm. If you don't know what it is I suggest you remove it. Here's the exact line below.

I've never seen so much stuff running from the documents & settings, which seems weird to me. The Google update one you might want to investigate too because I don't think it should be running from your D&S folder - I could be wrong though, somebody correct me if I am.
