Recently, I got a FP KT133+ mb and a duron 750Mhz. I managed to get the system running under 110Mhz X 7.5 = 825Mhz stable for whole night with dnet client running. However, the HD performance is extremely slow under both win2k and win98. Norton utitily SI reports 1.5Mbytes/s for all 3 HDs and that was 4Mbytes/s with my last shuttle motherboard. The BIOS setup was set to optiminal default and 2HDs in the same IDE channcel were in UDMA mode while another HD was in PIO4 mode(since it's along with the CD writer). Both win2k and win98 were fresh installations 3 days ago.

What could be the problem causing a 40% HD peroformance of what they used to be?

System spec.

Duron 750Mhz to 110Mhz X 7.5
160Mhz SDRAM 100Mhz
FP KT133+ motherboard
Vcore 1.68 Volt
VDD 3.48 Volt
System temp: 34 C degrees
CPU temp: 47 C degrees

have you tried installing the latest via 4in1 drivers? That should fix the problem

tried without luck. And it also has very poor HD performance under dos since it took almost twice as much time to install win98 and win2k under dos.

Did you recently partition this disk? I had the same problem and it was related to the two partitions I had just added with PartitionMagic 6.0. I don't understand the details but if it is partitoned try benchmarking the other partiton and see if its a lot faster.

no, the only things changed recently are:
CPU: from AMD K6/2 500 to duron 750Mhz
MB: super7 shuttle 591p to socket7 FP KT133+
PS: 250W AT powersupply to a 300W ATX powersupply

No partition made.
