hey everyone, new to the forum....little knowledge on computers hoping for some help/advice

just purchased a new laptop w 4gigs of memory (let me know if make and model matters, or any other info u would need..)

i was told it is capable of handling 8 gigs of memory (2 4gig sticks?) should i just max it out ? i got a good price on it since it was a floor model ...first laptop and just want to make it as powerful as i could i suppose

what would maxing the memory do for me?

a very rudimentary post, i know ....=) but we all got to start somewhere, right? thanks in advance! leave any comments/questions

windows 7 64 bit..

i really dont do anything crazy like video editing or nonsense..

id just like to do alot of things at once..

download big files, while listening to music, while chatting on aim, while typing a paper, while surfing websites

other than that...just basic pdf files and office applications...

thanks for your response, please advise!

4gb should be fine for what you describe. But if you feel like you want to max out the memory to 8gb you can and that OS will be able to see and use it all. It's up to you. But IMHO you should be good with 4gb for now.
