Its been on life support for a while. Some of the case fans have died. One of the two fans on the CPU HS has died as well. I figured I'd run it till it blows.

So...I stopped by my friendly neighborhood Mirocenter and walked out $600 lighter. CPU, MB, RAM, PS & Vista OEM.

I'll be back with an update when the operation is complete. :D

Isn't the lighter wallet sensation quite a strange one? It feels so bad and yet so good at the same time!

Having just done a laptop upgrade of terrible financial proportions, I know the feeling well. :(

However, the points are worth it... :D

About 50/50.

It was just a download & cd/dvd burning machine. That task will now be moved to Anubis, my Sempron 2800.

This will now take over as my main rig. Games, checking (ha), email, etc.

That's exactly the same as your old CPU. Is that right?

Just a quick update.

Been running with a mild overclock from 1.86ghz to 2.1.
Was getting ~90 credits per 6 hour Rosetta WU and ~404 for the new Einsteins which were taking about 22 hrs. Overall about 750-800 credits/day. Stock voltage. Was running about 56c under full load. Stock cooling.

Was hitting a wall on the overclock. Figured the onboard graphics was the wall.

Droped in a 7600gt. Now running at 2.4 with a small bump in core voltage. Now running @ 60-62c under full load. Stock cooling. Case temp is 41c. Room temp is around 27c

Measured floating point speed 2205.99 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 2586.17 million ops/sec

This is just killilng the old 1900+ :D

Sexy. :)

I'm too lost to even try & overclock my c2d(1.86 forever, unless I find a dummy guide). I did pump up my xp-m a few years back, but that was unlocked, so it was simple.
