extracting drivers from OS

Hi,

I have a old laptop that's become laggy in performance but I'm reluctant to do a clean install because I don't have the video drivers, sound, etc. on a disk. I don't know which files to backup so that I can reinstall the video drivers again..

Anybody know which files are necessary or how to go about finding which ones to save onto a disk?

The laptop I want to do the clean install on is a P120 with only 24 MB of ram.

Another question on the side... is there software that does a scan of hardware to tell you what audio, video, etc you have and which drivers to get for your computer..
