extracting audio from DVDs?

I just bought the 3 disc DVD set of The Cure performing live. I want to
extract the audio track from each and turn them into wav files so I can make
myself CDs to play in my car. How can I go about doing that? Obviously, I
don't need to extract the video, so if there's a shortcut to just doing the
audio, I'd prefer to do that. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Is there an option to listen to the audio track independently? You can easily extract the audio from most movies - they are encoded in AC3 and you would just need Besweet or something like that to accomplish what you are aiming for.

Try DVDrhelp to find specifcially what you are using 🙂

Try checking out DVDTalk and go to the Forum's Search engine. You will find a wealth of knowledge there about ripping audio from DVDs. Good luck.

easiest way is this:

grab this:
http://www.dvd2svcd.org/

install (its like a gui and comes with most apps you need)
then copy the files from every cd to hd and load ifo file
then you can select tracks you need to extract (when you select folder and finish extracting before encodin to svcd)
you will have ac3 files

then either use besweet command line or get a gui interface and u can convert/encode them
i did same with my queen dvd few month ago so i did a little of research on the subject

I like TMPGEnc for video editing, and I know it has a tool that does a simple demultiplex of the audio and video signals to seperate files. You'd have to rip the DVD to the machine first (in MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 format), but then you'd be able to use TMPGEnc. May be worth looking at, if you can't find anything else you like. To do it in TMPGEnc, just select File \ MPEG Tools \ Simple Demultiplex.
