Extra Power for my iPhone 5

I have decided that I need to get some backup charging/power for my iPhone 5. I take my car to the track and typically cell coverage is such that the phone needs to work a little harder to keep a signal. So battery drain isn't great.

I don't really want to use a car charger. So that leaves me to either the Mophie Juice Pack Case or the Juice Pack Powerstation.

The case would be nice because I don't currently have a case, but the Powerstation has over 3x the battery capacity so it would give me a lot of safety net as far as knowing I won't run out of power.

Just curious if anyone here has experience with either and could comment?

Why exactly do you not want to use a car charger????
You can get a USB car charger for under $5.

My car has a light weight battery that isn't meant to charge cell phones and I don't want to sit with it running. So the car charger is out.

Any thoughts on these two case options?

Thanks.

I'd think that if you're just barely making it or not making it right now, the Mophie case will be fine. You basically turn it on when you hit 20% and turn it off when you hit 80%. I believe you're able to do that a couple if times before it runs out of power.

Is only buy the power station if you have a serious issue with your power, where you're running out of juice about 12 hours before you can hit a charger again.

I've got one. Build quality isn't the greatest. It makes the already tall iphone 5 feel like a skyscraper in your hand. But if you don't care about these and coverage matters more...then it's a fine option.

Also: no access to the lightning port, special cable needed to use headphone jack.

When I had a iPhone 4, I had a Mophie case and liked it. The only disadvantage is that it blocked the 30 pin dock connector so you had to use a regular USB cable for charging.

However, I wouldn't buy that external battery pack from Mophie unless you have money to burn. Monoprice has a great variety of self branded battery packs and the one I have works great.

Wow, that's perfect! I was leaning towards the power station because I take a GoPro to the track and thought it'd be nice to be able to charge that too. The monoprice one is the clear winner. Thanks!

Just noticed they have a promotion on their homepage, enter code APPLE20 and you will get 20% off that battery pack.

What do you have, a yugo? Any car battery won't even notice a phone charging from it. However, the cigarette lighter might not be active except when the car is on.

My TSX is like that - the radio has to be on for the car charger to be on. That said, you're mostly right - a car battery if properly charged won't notice it. If you start and stop your a bunch of times not giving it enough time to charge between cranks, charging your phone (or running the AC) might be unwise.
