Extra Hard Drive Space

Hey now! I have 2 "120" gig hard drives: Maxtor and a WD. I say "120" because the Maxtor has only 114GB of usable space, and the WD has only 111GB of usable space.

My question is: Is there any way to access any/some/all of that space, on either hard drive, for additional storage?

You're getting confused by the whole binary/decimal MB thing that HD makers use (and Windows totally ignores, thus confusing countless noobs). Your hard drives are fine and you're using all the available space.

Thats just the way the drive manufacturers advertise their HDDs, what you're seeing is absolutely normal.
 
Gigabyte = 1,000,000,000 bytes
Gibibyte = 1,073,741,824 bytes

Hard drive companies use the first one, operating systems tend to use the binary gigabyte, or gibibyte.

I am an xbox modder, and you can edit the .ini on a hacked dashboard to access an extra 2 GB of storage on a stock Seagate HDD. I thought maybe something similar was possible on a PC.
