This quote:
Lucas, long a stickler for high-quality theatrical presentation, has added a reported 10 extra minutes of footage for a version to be projected in theaters with digital projectors. Cinema Hollywood in Birch Run is one of only four such houses in Michigan.

Is this right? They're releasing extra footage in a few select theaters?!? What the heck? I can't find any info in the information-overload-laden theforce.net, and googles news search brought just that above link. Anyone have any more info?

So no one has heard anything about this anywhere else? Is it just a false claim or something? That would suck if they showed exclusive footage of probably the biggest movie of the summer at only a few select theaters, and some states probably don't even have those theaters! WTF??

Lucas is pushing digital cinema hard so this would be no suprise if true.

I've seen the digital version, now I have to see the film one to see what was omitted I guess.

You know, it's really not a big deal because he's going to release the DVD with 15minutes of extra extra footage anyway. I can wait until then to see the 'not important enough to the story to release everywhere' parts.

There is one in my state (Monroe, WA). A friend of mine said there was xtra footage, or supposed to be. But I haven't seen anything confirming that. Even on the radio ads talking about the "DLP Equipped Theater, see it as it was meant to be seen!".

Lucas can do what he wants with it, and as much of a prick as it may seem to make him, he wants to make sure that it's the closest he can get to being perfect. If that means only allowing certain scenes in theaters that he deems capable of handling them, then so be it.

You have GOT to be fvcking kidding me:

# UA Farmingdale Stadium 10 - (Farmingdale, NY)
20 Michael Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735 (631-755-0940)
NOT showing Episode III on a Digital Screen

Literally an 8 minute drive from my house and its not showing it in Digital.

Maybe I'll take the train into the city to see it at AMC 25.

The romantic scenes are very corny and poorly written though. The action is supurb and there is lots of it.

I highly recommend advance tickets for the 12:01 shows, especially if you desire a digital presentation (if there are any tickets left by now).

If you havent seen movies made for a DLP projector, you wont understand why it's such a big deal. Episode 2 on DLP was beyond awesome, particularly the clarity of scenes that are usually blurry in the distance because of camera focusing stuff.

For those in Florida, there is now one at the Oceanwalk in Daytona Beach, and there is one at the Pleasure Island 24 in Downtown Disney. IIRC, there's also one at Channelside in Tampa.

How can a film theatre not show what a digital can? You can convert either formats to work on the other format? To me, Film is the way to go. I saw epII in digital, and there was slight artifacting, and the solid blacks had some pixelization, kinda like watching a xvid or something.

Lucas is pushing digital.

I saw it in DLP and it just had a slightly different feel, not really any better or worse than film IMO. Flim is going to go the way of the dinosaur within the next 5-10 years.

Strange, theaters near me both list the run time as 2 hrs 26 mins, whether they are showing DLP-digital projection or not.
