Extra $343 to go First Class to Hawaii--worth it?

I was going to say yes since it's a special trip, and a long one, but I do agree that it would suck flying back coach after flying there 1st class. On the way out, you're all excited, Hawaii ahead of you, you just can't wait to get there, you can muscle through the crying baby and the fat guy next to you and the crappy food because you'll be landing in Hawaii soon. What do you have to look forward to on the way back? A messy house? Going back to work? The infinite expanse of the rest of your mediocre life stretched out ahead of you spent next to this woman who was your second choice because all the good ones got away? Yeah, see if you can get first class on the way back instead.

I've never actually flown first class, despite flying, I dunno, 80-100 different times, mostly at the expense of work. How much does a 1st class ticket cost over and above the coach price, normally?

Fly first class you only get married once hopefully!

It really is worth it to go first class on your honeymoon. It starts your honey moon off with a bang. Once you sit down and they hand you that mimosa you will be glad you did.

Since it's your honeymoon order a couple of hawaiian leys and surprise her with them in bed in the morning! When you get to Honolulu make sure you take her to nahoku the Hawaiian jewelry store. I get my wife something from there every time we go to Hawaii.

Make it memorable!! Good luck!

My wife and I went to Hawaii in 2010. On the way back, we didn't feel very well and we were going to be stuck in coach in the middle two seats of a row of 4. I paid $300 each to upgrade us to first class and it was worth every penny.

Depends on your situation -- how much money you have available and all that -- but I'd lean towards yes.

Not for a 6 hour flight. A 6 hour flight in coach is pretty easy to take. 9 hours is usually when I start to upgrade to economy plus or business. Longest flight I did in coach was 14 hours from dulles to Kuwait.

It's an extra $343 for us to go first class to Hawaii one way (already bought the return ticket in coach) to Hawaii. Since we live rurally it's a 12 hour 30 minute total travel time with 2 connections.

So it's $425 coach or $768 first class each. Worth it? It's our honeymoon so I am leaning yes.

Our first leg would be coach regardless (1 hour), then second leg would be business (1 hour), and third leg would be first class (6 hours).

It's your honeymoon. Enjoy every minute of it (even on flight). Oh this would be the perfect chance to join the Mile High club if you haven't already. 😀

really depends on your financial situation. I would say that you should never sacrifice anything else in order to do first class. If you have extra money to blow, that is fine, but don't sacrifice anything fun on your actual trip to do it.

Me personally, I would much rather just do $700 more things in Hawaii like nice dining out, helicopter tours, and other such. So it really just depends on your budget and how much money you have. I could think of plenty more fun ways to spend $700 than to upgrade a seat on a flight I am already on.

Id do it, just for honeymoon, though 6 hours isn't that bad. I would have loved it on our honeymoon but it was way outside the budget.

I'd go for it. I flew 12 hrs to Hawaii (each way), and looked into first class, but it was like 5k for the wife and I.

I tend to agree, suck up the flight and do $700 worth of meals/trips/helichopter tour that you would have not done. You will remember that a lot longer then a better seat.

I'd do it. My wife and I are tentatively planning on going to Hawaii next year for our 10 year anniversary. I plan on going first class.

Nice flight at the end of a long day, I am thinking so. We seem to work our asses off every time before we go on a trip. We get there beat. We relax and wind down and are in better shape for the trip home. YMMV on that, but I think 1st class on the way out is a good splurge once.
If you are counting the dollars, here are some examples of what that 700 gets you there; I don't know where you are going so I used Oahu.

344 will get you a good luau and helicopter tour any any of the islands.
