Extra 128Mg Memory Performance Increase?

I ordered an extra 128Mg of Crucial 133 memory. This will bump me up to 256 Meg. I am running with a Radeon 64 DDR video card.

Will I see any significant performance increase? I hope the load time for Unreal Tournament will decrease.

Yes you will see a noticeable increase, most especially if you're using Win 2K. In WIn 9x it can be beneficial too, especially if you multi-task a lot. Unreal load time will decrease a bit too.

Seems everybody believe Win2K uses more memory than win9x. But as I know Win2K has much better memory management, so it should use less memory on long run.

From personel experience, my Win98se will eat 128M ram easily, with a few apps open and close. While on Win2K, with IE open, and Develope Studio running (compiling big project), the memory usage is always around 100M.

Yeah win2k has better management, but it just gives me a faster "feel" when I have 256 MB in my system, 128 was a little sluggish.

I am running WinME with 256MB CAS2 PC133. With norton antivirus and several other utilities loading on startup, I have about 70MB free physical memory.

Do you really use all of those "utilities" that loadup. A few years back I was into the gadgets, but I determined that I did not use them enough to have the laod all the time. I now only load programs when I need them, not at loadup. As for the Anti-Virus software, when was the last time you had a virus? Do you get lots of e-mail from unknown sources, or perhaps download lots of stuff from untrusted web sites? I would venture to say you don't get many viruses to be concerned. Save the memory and enjoy your computer more.

You'll see a benefit in a lot of games that are RAM hungry such as Quake 3, UT and Dues Ex. RAM is so cheap right now you may as well buy some if you can. I've got 192 MB of RAM and I'll either buy another 64 MB or 128 MB.

i dont feel something improves here any way i just upgrade my memory to 512Mb on cusl2 and nothing different with 384Mb before i upgrade it!

That's a bit different to moving from 128 MB to 256 MB. 😉
