External USB2 Hard Drive Enclosures

I have 2 of these external enclosures...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817173003

Now I can't get either of them to function with a Hitach 500GB hard drive. Is there some sort of storage limit with the external enclosures? One person reviewing the product said he used a 400GB Seagate.

FYi I know the 500Gb drive is good I tried it in a PC, also both enclosures work with a Maxtor 120GB drive.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a limitation of the chipset in the enclosure. Probably due to the capacity of the drive or something else about the Hitachi.

All of the ones I saw while shopping around for mine only support up to 300 GB. The only one I know of that does support 500 GB is sold at Best Buy, the brand starts with an "A" (Adaptec???).

Well Rosewill emailed me back and they said it only supports 400Gb. BUT I set the drive to "slave" installed it int the enclosure and it works fine. I've been copying data back and forth for several hours now.

The earlier ones I believe had a limit of ~137GB just like the early xbox bios's, and earlier mobo's bioses before LBA patches.. just checked the link and it's for Rosewill. I'm using Bytecc which is much cheaper and the later ones for those support LBA.
